November 17, 200322 yr Not very realistic for me. I use real charts (I have a subscription from mypilot.com that updates me every cycle) that I use for plotting my flight plan and real world weather, but other than that, after I take off, I just turn on the autopilot until it's almost time to land.
November 17, 200322 yr Several months ago, before doing real life flying, I would have said normally fly unrealistically and impatiently. Now I use FSHotSeat on every flight so I always start cold, do all the checklists, and everything else by the book.I'm finding FS to be much more fun then it used to be and doing it the right way may keep alive in the future.Speed.

November 17, 200322 yr >How realistic are you?accurate flightplanning is important, flying as much realistic as possible for a pilot with an empty F/O seat
November 17, 200322 yr "or see how close I can get a F16 to an AI jetliner."LOL Yeah that's me too. I have made AIRFORCE 1 747 as an AI plane before and seen how close I can get before FS2004 tells me I've smashed into it when I really havent. HEHEHE. FUN FUN.
November 17, 200322 yr I wouldnt say your an odd man out Denis.I'll mention my flying a minute but whats so great about this sim is has so many ways for users to enjoy it. Unlike a game that has points, extra men, or a goal with an end this sim keeps the users attention by letting him/her use it with their own goals in mind.As for me I fly as real as i can. Charts, realism factors on high, real wx, check the wx prior to flight, navigate using land marks or plotting it out with the E^-B,checklist, and use FSFailure. I fly the GA planes, mostly the 172 and from time to time decide not to use the checklist which recently caused me a crash which I hold my head in shame about. During rotation on a short rwy with an obstacle at the end I could not get lift. I kept the power on and never did any emergency procedures. It could of been the auto pilot being on and set to gnd level or my trim was off but what it ended up being was that I had set the config file for my stick last flight and I was using my yoke this flight. Had I done a preflight check I would of saw not all my flight controls were free and correct and would of ruled out the auto pilot which would not of been a favctor since I would would of caught the error prior. So since then I dont cut edges anymore.NP
November 18, 200322 yr Hmmm...I like to get a good glass of Cabernet, load up some Vivaldi in the background and fire up the homebuilt...FDC cabin announcments, Flight Plan keying into the MCDU, ATIS, Checklists, Pushback...Taxi,ATC,weather, etc. basically like a real flight which is why I only can shuttle between LGA, DCA and BOS. I don't like to accelerate the sim and I can get these flight dones in about 1 1/2 hours from a cold and dark cockpit to shutdown. Along the way I usually listen to my music (Steely Dan or classical)and then get set up for the approach which I sometimes hand fly and sometimes I let "George" do it. Depends on the weather but I really prefer Low IFR with about 400 Ceilings and 1 Mile visability.'I close out the night thinking I really went to Boston or Washington...good simulation no?
November 18, 200322 yr I'm so utterly unreal its scary:) - I normally fly Air Jamaica routes with the PSS320, no checklists and no go-arounds:) (my friend Captain Delisser would not be amused at my flagrant 'virtual' disregard of airline procedures:) - I'll pretty much obey fs ATC but only if it suits me since they're all on controlled substances anyhoo:+ :-jumpy Interesting to hear different peoples' standards for realism - for me there's probably only two, maybe three things I can't bear, one is to fly anything other than real time of day, taking timezones into account and two, I always, always start where I last landed. Also if I get a hankering to fly an Alaskan md83 out of Anchorage, or a BA777 out of Heathrowe you better believe I'm flying there first!regards,Mark Regards, Mark
November 18, 200322 yr Yep I am with you in the gotta take off from where I landed.Of course this can be fun, when I decide to go a place for whatever reason.Last few sessions have been me deciding that I had to see the better modelled Shuttle. Only prob was that I was in Mombassa with the 737. So this was the Azores (non ils) to Jamaica to Miami. I can only do it fuel wise if I dump all passengers, fill her up, and climb at around 500-600 fpm to say 37K I keep airspeed around 380, watching REV counter constantly on climb and rate of fuel burn. From Miami I decide that a 737 is not going to spend a lot of time flying over the Shuttle, so swap to the Gooney Bird and hand fly to the Cape. Still not slow or close enough, so land at skid pan, and get into Robinson copter and do my visit.I then HAVE to take the reciprocal aircraft, course back to the very gate I left the 737!!Now off to look at Maid of the Mist at Niagra! Will probably change to a Beechcraft at Buffalo Niagra. We all create our own dreams and follow them on our
November 18, 200322 yr I'm pretty real. Actually I am posting so my forum membership doesn't expire- so please excuse my post. This was the lucky thread to get my update this quarter. :-)
November 18, 200322 yr I fly everything in real-time. Due fuel/weight calculations etc... I have a website I go to that gives me everything I need to know wx wise. I fly the PSS/PMDG planes mostly and use FSMeteo for RW wx so having the latest winds-aloft map helps with fuel planning. I fly everytime on VATSIM as well. Call me a nut but I have 4 three-ring binders. One for USA east coast/central airports, one binder for mountain/west coast USA airports and one binder for European/Asian airports. All have the latest charts for each airport. The fourth binder has about 200 real world flightplans. For atlantic/pacific crossings I use FSBuild to get the current real world NAT/PAC tracks. I guess you can call me one of them serious hobbyists. Eric
November 19, 200322 yr When I have the time, I like to try to get as real as possible. Charts, flight plans (thanks to FSNAV - this chore is relatively easy), checklists etc. But we have a 10 month old english bulldog who is a very demanding little beast. So my PIC time has been limited the last year. It's all good (he's a great dog), but it does mean that I spend a lot of time firing up tried and true flights, updating the route in my Reality XP gauges and off I go.
