FS9 Flicker(very frustrated)

Featured Replies

I have been using FS9 successfully since it's been out. Very few problems up till now. I just upgraded my computer. I had a Pentium D 2.8Ghz with 2gig ram, Radeon HD 4850 512meg video card running WinXP home. No problems. No I got a AMD Phenom II X2 545 with 4gig of DDR3 ram, Radeon HD 4670 1gig in a Gigabyte MB running the same WinXP home. Same LG 19" LCD monitor, keyboard, mouse & yoke/pedals. The computer is faster. I am able to up most everything to max in the FS9 sliders. Now I am getting a flicker when I switch views in 2D. I also get an occasional white flash while I am flying. It is driving me buggy. I use to get this when I tried FSX but then it was a screen resolution/refresh rate problem. I have switched video drivers 4 or 5 times. Various old ones to the newest 11.2 I believe. I have switched resolution, refresh rate, reinstalled DirectX 9c.The only thing that helps this is when I go from full screen to windowed mode. The flashing seems to stop. I am sorry this is so long but I felt background was needed. Any ideas? I have to get this fixed. Thanks.Pat Callaghan

I had Two different ATI video cards on previous computers and consistently had problems with flickering and shimmering. I finally got an Nvidia card. These were oldrer cards, but it sounds like things haven't changed much.I have never regretted going back to Nvidia.

Hello,No problems with ATI ... and no problems with my former Nvidia...Settings maybe ?Regards.bye.gifGus.

Have you tried looking at the computer hardwares's temperature? This could be the cause of overwhelming. And also, have you tried running other games besides Flight Simulator? Games that are heavily rely on video card.

Are you referring to the ground textures loading slowly, or "popping" into place one by one after you've switched views?

Or by flicker do you mean certain ground textures shimmering? Make sure Mip Maps in FS is set to 4 or less.

Jim, I am talking about the 2D panels. Even on the default Cessna. When I switch views It sort a stutters & sometime for a partial second you can see two views. Sounds weird but it does not seem to do it when in windowed mode.Pat

Of course .. when minimized .. FS2004 is iddle ... :( Anyways ... as your T° are low .. this must no be a prob when FS2004 is running (for real .. lol)Note that's is some freeware tools who can record in realtime (in background) T° and more .. of GPU when a application is runningLike:http://www.ozone3d.net/gpu_caps_viewer/Regards.bye.gifGus.

This is a big clue, I just can't remember why :( But someone must know, I remember having graphics issues related to fullscreen vs windowed mode before and there were ways to fix it.

I have now tried deleting all video drivers & mouse drivers. All the same. I know it is a refresh rate issue I just don't know what to do about it.Pat

Hi pat,Have you tried deleting your video drivers using "driver cleaner"?, I thinkit does a better job than doing it yourself and removes previous driver remnentsthat can cause conflicts.Nige

Nige, Yep... Driver Cleaner Pro & Driver Sweeper. Still no go. I have spent all morning fiddling with the drivers. Nothing has changed. I am about to dump the whole hard drive & start from fresh. Really don't want to since I just did it when I got the computer in February. Man, I don't think I have ever been this stumped except when it comes to women. :)Pat
