Landing Gear failure

Featured Replies

I can't seem to get the landing gear to extend after getting 3 reds on the console. I lost total pressure on the #3 hydraulic system and the alternate pumps did not activate in the 'manual mode'. I did push the release button near the landing gear handle but the gear did not extend and the lights remained red. Does anyone know how to get the gear to extend in an emergency situation?jack noulet

Could show us a picture of you overhead panel and the hydraulics system display when this problem happen? It would make it a lot easier for us to visualize what's wrong and identify the issue. Check your failure settings at PMDG menu and reset them. Maybe there's a failure activated that may be causing the problem.

Aren't there manual extension functions located under the FO seat?

Kyle Rodgers

Without pressure, there is a red handle by the FO's seat.

There is a very well hidden lever to mechanically extend the landing gear. It is between the FO seat and the center pedestal. That lever releases all the landing gears but the center one, that is deployed by another lever. The manual says that there is a screwlike lever to release the center gear. According to the manual, this lever is in front of the main CB panel, but I still couldn't find it.In the MD-11 Systems Manual you can find instructions for alternate gear extention at page LAND30.5.

Is this emergency landing gear handle modeled on the PMDG MD-11? If so, I too cannot find it.jack noulet

They are indeed a bit tricky to find. Here are some pictures for guidance:

Too slow. I was almost finishing to post where to find the handles when I saw you post. I was still uploading the pictures. BTW, the handle showed in the first picture is between the center pedestal and the FO seat, as you can clearly see, and it only deploys the nose gear and both main landing gears. Not the center one.The handle in the second picture is the one that deploys the center gear. The picture doesn't show very clearly where it is. It's at the right side of the FO seat. Both handles are protected by metal lids on the floor.

Jack, the release button next to the landing gear lever is only to mechanically release the lever itself. This is needed if there is a fault in the ground/air sensing mechanism, in which case the airplane would "think" it was on ground and would then lock the lever. That's why there is a button to override that lock.Or of course for maintenance purposes.Regards,Markus

Thanks everyone. I was able to locate the emergency landing gear lever between the copilot and the center console. I could not locate it when in 'vitual cockpit mode' but when I sequenced through using the 'A' key and got to the copilot's seat was then able to locate the red lever under the metal casing protector cover. Special thanks also for advising me of the seperate functionality of the landing gear handle switch.Regards, jack noulet
