November 16, 200322 yr I am considering the jump from jet aircraft to general aviation aircraft because I am simple getting bored with the big jets. I have flown some G.A. aircraft in the past. I am considering the Piper Meridian from Flight One software. Have any of you purchased this aircraft (for FS9) and if so, is it worth the money? I am on a somewhat limited budget and don't want to waiste money on a product that might not get good reviews from my follow pilots. :)Thanks,Tom
November 16, 200322 yr The Meridian is worth the IMHO, and it is certainly the most sophisticated GA aircraft in flightsim, the 767PIC of GA so to speak. However, if you are bored with jets you should perhaps consider a somewhat simpler aircraft. The Meridian has avionics that rival those of many jets and it has a very nice powerplant that is easy to manage. Maybe you should consider a piston powered aircraft such as the Flight1 Cessna 421 or something from FSD. - Oyvind
November 16, 200322 yr Tom - there is no better G.A. aircraft available for FS9 period. I would argue that it even beats great majority of jet-aircraft addons simply because of the artistry of its panel and smooth gauges that again beat all other almost-smooth gauges. *:-*Michael J. Michael J.
November 16, 200322 yr >it is certainly the most sophisticated GA aircraft in flightsimYou could also consider the Pilatus Porter from FSD International.David
November 17, 200322 yr Yup Meridian for GA. PMDG737 for Commercial Jet. Eaglesoft for Biz jets.George Stoddard
November 17, 200322 yr >want to waiste money on a product that might not get good>reviews from my follow pilots. :)>Thanks,Consider also it received 5-star rating from Avsim (read the review). Contrary to what you may think Avsim reviewers also qualify as your fellow pilots. Michael J. Michael J.
November 17, 200322 yr Flight1's Meridian is a complete work of art and performance. For what it does, it is remarkably efficient perf wise. I don't even like flying slow pokes like the Meridian (compared to jets that is . . .) but the thing is so nice I find myself in it 85% of the time. It's a joy to fly as well as super efficient. I would rate it my clear and away best choice of add on aircraft so far, and that includes DreamFleet 737 (I never liked this sucker and am glad to be rid of it), PSS 747, PSS Dash 8 (another honey--we'll see how it performs when upgraded to 2004), Eaglesoft Beechjet, and several others. I would really like to pick up a KingAir 350 that is comparable to this Piper. Aircraft used in MSFS 2024: Fenix A320, Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.
November 17, 200322 yr They're both great, but I'd have to give the nod to the Meridian for it's top flight and remarkably replicated avionics.
November 17, 200322 yr Apart from the points Greg mentioned I would say the Meridian comes with superbly crafted 2D panel, pedestal textures (note "2D"). Frankly I haven't seen any add-on aircraft that could match it.Michael J. Michael J.
November 17, 200322 yr Hi Noel, for a King Air 350? well, you may consider the same technology which drives your Meridian Meggit:http://www.reality-xp.com/products/JL2/index.htm(and the installer is shipped with a retrofitted King Air 350 panel!)or something very close:http://www.aeroworx.com/kashots.htmlHope this helps!
November 17, 200322 yr Hi,I don't want to bother you about technical question, but can anyone give me details about framerate ? My computer is build around an AMD XP2400+ processor with a TI4200 videocard and 512 M of memory and Windows XP. Is Meridian really supported by system whose specifications are similar to mine ? I wish to buy it, but if you confirm that I will encounter stutters, I prefer to give up. Thank you for your reply. Vincent
November 17, 200322 yr Your system seems very capable. You can go to the Flight1 forum and ask the same question or use "search" and see if stutters were ever encounters.I don't think you would have any problems.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
November 17, 200322 yr Author I run the Meridian on a P4-2.4 with a Ti4200 (52.16 drivers) with no problems and framerates in the twenties.. Bert
