March 10, 201115 yr Hey guys,Ever since merging the Tinmouse II and Aerosim 737-200, I have become a "merging enthusiast". I have afterwards merged the PSS777 with the POSKY777, and have begun doing a merge of the PSS757 and QW757. Sadly, I don't think the latter will ever get finished sue to lakc of time and me moving on to FSX. However, I have found a new target: the Flight1 Super 80. It seems like a great plane (haven't even installed it yet), but what I always disliked about it is the VC. Most of it is flat. This is also the reason I started out with the Leonardo Maddog. On all accounts a great plane, but in FSX the FPS get a big hit... Bigger than with other planes I have. So, I have been looking for other planes. The Flight1 Super 80 has a reputation of being FPS-friendly. But as I said, I dislike the VC's flatness. So, here's my proposal: A merge with the CLS MD-80 series. Has anybody tried this yet, and if so, did it work out? If not, I'll see what I can do. Justr asking before I do anything, since I'll have to buy the CLS MD-80 first...Just to be clear on a few things:- I do not expect every button and switch to be operable. In the PSS/POSKY 777 merge I also had to use the 2D overhead all the time and I didn't mind that.- I do want/need all actual gauges that show readings on the main panel to show (including stuff like ADI, HSI, EGT meters etc etc). If I can't have all relevant info displayed in the VC, then flying it is useless for me (I'm a VC flyer, so I want all available info to be viewable from within the VC).And one question: The Super 80 Pro simulated the MD-88, as is stated in the guide. However, it seems to me that the MD-88 EFIS flight deck is the same flight deck that is featured in the Leonardo Maddog MD-82. Were MD-82's upgraded to the MD-88 flight deck, but simply kept their designation as MD-82? March 11, 201115 yr This series aircraft has been one of my favorites for a very long time. I remember watching it grow in length over the years from the DC-9 series through MD-90 and as a kid used to think the darn thing would break in half with the engines so far in the back. The CLS MD-80 series looks clean. Can you tell me how good the sound files are? I have long since given up on New Years resolutions, but I did promise myself I would get my Leonardo Maddog up and flying in FSX, but always got discouraged by the frame rates. I still might learn the systems but use a CLS MD-80 for free flight. I'd be curious to hear about your merge results. Keith Guillory

It'll depend on the way the Super 80 gauges were made and how the CLS MD-80 has configured the panels. It'll probably end up being a disaster, but I can always try, right? By the way, there are some nice sound packages in the Avsim library, you can try those. That's what I did for my Leonardo Maddog. Ya know, that plane is worth gold in FS2004, but the FPS is just too low in FSX. It's sad, because I'm quite sure that at this point in time it is still the one passenger airplane with the best simulated systems we have. Only the PMDG 737NGX is probably going to change this anytime soon.Anybody out there wanting to shout some words of encouragment or advice? March 11, 201115 yr Moderator If you decide to go ahead and try let us know how you make out with it. I had considered the same thing a while back, but I know nothing about merging a/c and didn't want to spend the money on the CLS version to try. I wish there was an MD-80 model out that looked like the inside and outside of the CLS version but had full functionality like the CoolSky version, I would have bought it already, ie PMDG version of the MD-80.I actually bought the Super 80 Pro last month and tried it out, but I had some wierd issues with it that Espen was unable to figure out and I had to return it. Its too bad because even though the VC was pretty dated looking, I actually liked flying it and it got great FPS, probably better FPS than any airliner I own. I was able to fly it into FSDT's KDFW with 100% traffic and maintain FPS over 30 the whole time. The problem was that every few flights something would happen that would cause my HD to start spinning and slowly FPS would grind to a halt. I thnk it was something in the FMS that was causing it, but was unable to get it sorted prior to the 30 days refund policy expiring. It was the only thing I have ever bought from Flight1 that I had to return. In the end I probably wont miss it once the NGX comes out. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
