Well, it's not nicknamed "Whale Jet" for nothing. But it's still an awesome airplane. Congratulations to Boeing for completing this milestone. I'll look forward to fly on the 8i with Lufthansa, just as well as the A380.

Like it or loathe it, I think even its detractors have to admit that the A380 is an impressive feat of modern engineering.

The landing gear, although tested on the ground, can behave differentl while in teh air, and being a brand-new airplane, the gear and flaps haven't been used much, and the systems must be ensured that they function properly. This is standard procedure for any first flight. The 747-8I had its gear down less time than the 747-8F because they have the same gear assembly, but still, just to ensure.
