April 22, 201115 yr Ok, let me see if I can describe this...First I do a forum search and I get a list of results. That part works fine. Then I select one item on the list and I'm taken to another page with the thread I selected. Now, the problem is that I can't get back to the page with all the results of my search. If I hit the back button on the browser I just get a message saying the page I'm trying to access has expired. So, after looking at just one result I have to do the search all over again. This happens every day and every time I do a search. I'm using Vista and just got the new version of Internet Explorer, it did the same thing with the previous version of Internet Explorer. Do I need to change a setting somewhere or is there maybe a button I'm not seeing?
April 27, 201115 yr Author huh?If you're talking about making changes to the forum database I don't think I (as a user) can do that.
April 27, 201115 yr Have you tried right clicking on the link and selecting "Open in new tab" or "Open in new Window" from the resulting context menu? That should allow the tab/page containing the search results to remain available after you close the tab/page containing the thread.
May 8, 201115 yr I have had this same problem with several different vendor fourms, over the past several versions of IE. The mouse back button clears the forum search results - producing a error - 'Page Not Found'...The issue is site specific, and has become appearent in the AVSIM forums after the recent forum upgrade. One quick fix I've recently figure out - at the 'page not found' screen, simply hit the 'Page Refresh' button at the top of the browser, usually near the URL bar. This always redisplays the fourm search results. It seems like some cache is not read properly when navigating with the back button.I'd love to know if there is a IE setting to prevent this from happening as well. No, I don't like using 'Open search result in new tab' right-click functionality either. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE

We haven't upgraded the core forum system in quite a while; in fact, in at least six months. The additional functionality that we have added has nothing to do with the search function.
May 8, 201115 yr Hey Tom,I don't remember having this problem until more recently so I just assumed it could be related to the new forum software. I should also clarify, the exact error is: "Webpage has expired" when using the mouse back button to get back to the list of search results, after clicking on a topic. I do know I've had this problem with IE8 & 9, and probably IE7 as well. No weird IE configurations, pretty much default. Like I said, I can use the page refresh button and the list of search results are again produced - I think it actually runs the seach again and refreshes the page.I just checked around, I get this affect here on the Avsim forums, gpsreview.net fourm, and the Fflytampa forum to name a few, but not on the SimFlight (Pete Dowson) forum, FS Flight Keeper (Thomas Molitor) forum, or the TopCat forum.Could it be an issue witht the type of software running each of these forums, producing the error in some cases? Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
May 8, 201115 yr Click on the links/search results with the middle mouse/wheel button and the link/search will be opened in a new tab or browser window, then just close the tab or window when you are done to return to the search results. Cheers, Andy.
May 8, 201115 yr Ah, having just tried here on the Avsim forum, that does indeed seem to work - but it still doesn't explain or resolve the descrepiency between forums. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
May 8, 201115 yr All the forums running on the iPboard software probably have this issue and the other forums you mention use phpBB which is completely different software. My middle mouse button method mentioned in my last post will work on every forum regardless of the software used. Cheers, Andy.
