  1. Don, thank you so much!! That does exactly what I wanted to do.
  2. Thanks for the response. That's pretty much what I want to do, except undocking the windows puts a border and title bar around them. I've spent a lot of time getting the windows perfectly sized and positioned so they are easily accessable, yet unobtrusive. The borders and title bars around them don't look good at all and block part of the view. Plus, I would like for it to happen every time automatically. I was kind of hoping for some kind of command I could put in the panel, cfg file where the options like window size and position are listed. I'll try undock=1 :-)
  3. On most of my aircraft I've created custom GPS and radio panel windows that are nicely positioned and large enough to interact with. I use the virtual cockpit and like to keep the GPS and radio windows open sometimes, but the problem is every time I switch between cockpit and outside views the windows disappear. Is there a way to keep them open until toggled off?
  4. Thanks for the tip Robert, that works.
  5. huh?If you're talking about making changes to the forum database I don't think I (as a user) can do that.
  6. Ok, let me see if I can describe this...First I do a forum search and I get a list of results. That part works fine. Then I select one item on the list and I'm taken to another page with the thread I selected. Now, the problem is that I can't get back to the page with all the results of my search. If I hit the back button on the browser I just get a message saying the page I'm trying to access has expired. So, after looking at just one result I have to do the search all over again. This happens every day and every time I do a search. I'm using Vista and just got the new version of Internet Explorer, it did the same thing with the previous version of Internet Explorer. Do I need to change a setting somewhere or is there maybe a button I'm not seeing?
  7. Yeah, I was surprised to arrive at a big airport with a tower and ATC, but no lights. It's not worth it for me to update the airport as I was just passing through, working on the Visit Series. If you're not already familiar with it, the Visit Series gives rewards for visiting different countries. It's free, it's fun and it gives you a reason to explore places you might not otherwise go. More info here: Visit Series
  8. I just made a night flight into Gaza (Palestinian Authority) and there was ATC, but no runway lights. It took me a couple passes to figure out where the runway is, but I did finally make a successful landing. Thankfully, the moon was bright and the runway long. :( I recently installed Shockwave Lights and let it adjust the runway lights setting. I was just wondering if someone without Shockwave wants to see if they have runway lights at Gaza.
  9. I've almost finished a complete reinstall of FSX and everything looks great, except..At night with the lights on all of my airliners have very washed out logos on the tail. This includes the default planes and also any repaints I add. I've tried playing around with the various display settings, but nothing seems to have any effect. Is there a file that all the planes use for the tail lighting? Or some other fix I might have missed?
  10. Thanks for the recommendations. I'm now using FSX logbook recovery and Lamont's logbook editor. I'm also trying to stay away from the built in logbook (except for an occasional sneak peak and no editing). It's a little clutsy switching around between programs, but at least everything seems to be stable this way.
  11. Thanks for the response. I downloaded Lamont's logbook editor, but it just hangs when I try to open my logbook. My logbook was totally lost a couple days ago (with hundreds of hours) and now FSX has started a new one. Since this logbook editor just reads the existing logbook data file it seems you still have the problem of FSX corrupting the file. I'd really like to find some kind of total replacement program.
  12. It's common knowledge that the built in FSX logbook just doesn't work right. Doing constant backups and recoveries is a real pain. Actually, the defaul logbook would be fine, if it just worked properly. So, what are the alternatives? Does anyone have a good replacement?
  13. This has to be my favorite TV show. Some of my toughest moments of real life flying are done by these guys every day. What great pilots.I once met an airline pilot who flew 747s from San Francisco to Japan. After I told him how envious I was, he said that the most fun flying is done in small planes at 2000 feet. Bush flying is it!I hope somebody puts together some kind of downloadable scenerios so we can test our skills flying with this airline.
  14. After digging around in the forum I was able to piece together enough information to answer my own question. If you're interested here's how you do it. In the Flight SimulatorEffects folder there are two files, named fx_strobe.fx and fx_strobeh.fx. Make backup copies of both files then edit them using Notepad. Find the section labeled Properties and add the line: Cockpit=0 Restart Flight Simulator. Voila! No more strobe lights from the cockpit view. Note that this will effect all aircraft using these strobe files. I don't use the virtual cockpit, but there is another line you can add: VirtualCockpit=0. Setting the variable to 0 makes the lights invisible, setting it to 1 makes them visible.
  15. I've tweaked most of my aircraft by removing the virtual cockpit and interior views so that I can have an unobstructed view from the cockpit in all directions. The problem is that in some aircraft (Mooney and Beechcraft, FS2004), when I look out the the right or left sides I get a clear view except for the flashing strobe hanging in mid-air. I don't see the nav lights, which are in almost exactly the same position.I'd like to know if there is some way to remove the strobes from the cockpit view, without changing them from the outside view? I can use a hex editor if needed.
