FLYING WILD ALASKA

Featured Replies

Am i the only one that just loves this show and ready to move to Alaska???StorylineFollows the unconventional Tweto family that rules Alaska's most dangerous skies. Operating their family-run airline, Era Alaska, they battle unforgiving Alaska weather and terrain to transport life's necessities to one of the most remote and extreme regions of America. With no freeway system for hundreds of miles, Era Alaska is the lifeline for the isolated rural inhabitants of the Bering Sea coastline. From champion snow dogs bound for the Iditarod to medicine for sick children to groceries for miners working on an operation on the North Slope, the goods that the intrepid pilots ship on any given day are crucial to everyday life. It's a great show,It's a little weird to see Eric post mortem, he was a good instructor and friend to a lot of people down here in San Diego.

I absolutely love that show! Great people, and great pilots! It certainly does make one considering moving to Alaska.-m@

This has to be my favorite TV show. Some of my toughest moments of real life flying are done by these guys every day. What great pilots.I once met an airline pilot who flew 747s from San Francisco to Japan. After I told him how envious I was, he said that the most fun flying is done in small planes at 2000 feet. Bush flying is it!I hope somebody puts together some kind of downloadable scenerios so we can test our skills flying with this airline.

This show could easily be a 1/2 hour long if they stopped repeating themselves after every commercial break. With the seemingly endless replays, the minutes of repeated footage after a break, and the director/editor's propensity to just repeat-repeat-repeat what has happened (*or will happen), the show borders on being unwatchable for me. It has all the length of a documentary with all the true substance of a bad reality show. Thankfully, it's a show about airplanes - so I just have to watch it... but after skipping past commercials and the repeated information used as filler, it only feels like a 20 minute program. It's not the best aviation television show, but it'll do for now. -Greg

I couldn't agree more. John

What other shows are out there? It's the only one I know. I admit it's not hardcore viewing for aviators, but it has a charm. You always hear the negatives of airlines and pilots in the news. and kind of refreshing to see people who love what they do.

In the sad episode where they were transporting the coffin and the family in a funeral, it was very touching when Jim was asked if the family could pay on the 15th of the month. He said yes. Can you imagine if that were in the lower 48 and with say, with one of our "Legacy" airlines? The answer would have taken 30 days to come down from corporate and would be a big "#####? Are you crazy? We can offer you our Family Bereavement Fare" which turns out to be 15% higher than the fare on the Internet site.Love the show, but agree that there is too much air time spent on telling us what we already saw and what we will see later. But most of TV is that way now.

I've only been able to catch just one episode. The episode where a new pilot was on his last flt eval. At the dest airfield the two elderly passengers asked about their luggage. The poor new pilot had left them at the dep airport and promised to bring them the next day.The camera crew fades back to their filming of the departure and of the new pilot loading the luggage. It seemed they knew he had missed loading those two bags because they zoomed in on them in the cart after the pilot thought he had loaded everything. That was pretty crappy on the camera crews part. They could've just as easily pointed the bags out to the instr pilot and the couple would not have had to wait on the bags and the new guy would still have been fairly eval'd. Thankfully the new guy was hired on.All in all a great program and I hope to watch more episodes.jimb

In the age of DVR's repeat information can be easily avoided though, along with the equally irritating commercials. That stuff doesn't concern me anymore.

I think the reason they do that is to set the upcoming scene for viewers who may not have been watching prior to thecommercial break. If it helps the show gain an larger audience I don't see it as a bad thing. The show will not succeed if onlyaviation enthusiasts watch it.Regards.Ernie.

It's a great show! When recorded and cut off the commercials, it makes a rather good documentation show about alaska bush flying. I love it and it makes me wanna make my PPL. If I ever have the money for it!That's what I would call real flying skills! Not pushing some knobs, dials and MCDU / FMC, almost fall asleep between takeoff and landing where the hand flying skill may be needed! Real hand-flying skills there in alaska!
