Oh no Tom :( I'm so sorry to hear this. I will always have fond memories of hanging out and chatting with you at the AVSIM Socials and FANCON's. You are a class act Tom, and will be remembered! I am happy to hear that plans are in the works to continue this great community. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family in this difficult time. -matt

For real world flight, I am using an iPad2, and iPhone4 (backup) with Foreflight. I have pretty much stopped buying paper charts and AFD's at this point. -m@

I am looking forward to another great AVSIM Social... Now to get on to the trip planning.

All I know is that I never renewed my subscription, though the new owner keeps sending me a bill for subscription renewal. I have responded indicating that I did NOT renew, and will not be renewing. I received an acknowledgement from them of my intentions, though I continue to receive bills from them. Something is not right over there. At any rate, I am ignoring any emails and bills I receive from them now. Good luck to them.

Can't wait! That's 2 1/2 weeks before my 2 week Jamaica trip! Should be fun as always!

I too am having this problem. When I undock the FMC and move it to the 2nd screen, it goes black. This does not happen with other add-on aircraft I have installed. I am running the latest version of the NGX. This has been a problem for me since the release, and through all SP's. -m@

....of control around here! sheesh! I lost count of how many times the "Most Users Online" record has been broken today! The AVSIM servers seem to be holding up pretty well, and the forum software hasn't crashed yet. We'll see how the PMDG servers hold up after release!

Well.. some of this has probably been mentioned, but here is my take: - Visually, it can be pretty close, but there is a bit of depth perception that is not quite there.- Flight Dynamics, with the right addon aircraft, can be very close.- The feel......not so much. The first thing I noticed during my first few lessons was that in the sim, you don't feel anything. You don't feel any feedback on the yoke, the wind, etc... This is especially noticeable when doing pattern work in heavy crosswinds. In the sim, you can see it a little, but you just don't get proper feedback. In real life, there is nothing like getting bounced around on short final in a 172 with a howling and swirling crosswind, then get a bit of sheer and having a feeling of dropping out of the sky, all while trying to stay lined up on the approach path, keeping the nose pointed down the runway. Then as you round out to a few feet above the runway, and fighting the wind gusts as you flare, trying not to catch a big gust and balloon up, and also trying to keep it from dropping too hard. Just my thoughts! -m@

This looks absolutely amazing...I currently use a single GNS430w. I would love to upgrade to this!As for the turbulence, I find that in heavy turbulence, it doesn't matter what buttons you have, it's still difficult to operate while you are bouncing around.-m@

I am a long time simmer. Been simming since the mid-80's. Just this past year (2010), I decided it was time to take it to the real world. My simming experience, I believe gave me a head start. My instructor was very impressed with my knowledge, and natural skills. As a long time VATSIM user, I was comfortable on the radio as well. My instructor was impressed with my radio skills right from the start. When it was all said and done, I completed my PPL and check ride in 46.1 hours total time. Getting my real world PPL is the best thing I ever did! My only regret is that I waited way too long to do it. I should have done it years ago!Regardless of whether you have sim experience or not, if you want to fly for real, just do it. You will be glad you did!

My installations of the Carenado Grand Caravan and the Cargomaster do not have a map view on the GNS430 at all? This has frustrated me, as I use a GNS430 in real life.Is this a bug, or a stuffed up install? I'm tempted to uninstall/reinstall, just don't want to hose up my license with unnecessary re-activations.-m@

I started my flight training back in April. I am just about done. I passed the written exam this week, and I just have check ride prep to do, and a few hour requirements to pick up, then I hope to do my check ride by the end of October. It's exciting!Good luck!-m@
