April 6, 201115 yr It's common knowledge that the built in FSX logbook just doesn't work right. Doing constant backups and recoveries is a real pain. Actually, the defaul logbook would be fine, if it just worked properly. So, what are the alternatives? Does anyone have a good replacement?
April 6, 201115 yr Do a search in the Avsim FSX Utilites section. You are looking for Lamont Clark's FSX logbook editor. It uses the default FSX logbook so you do not loose anything and your flights still get automatically logged. You use Lamont's editor for all additions and modification to your log and never again use the FSX editor.
April 6, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the response. I downloaded Lamont's logbook editor, but it just hangs when I try to open my logbook. My logbook was totally lost a couple days ago (with hundreds of hours) and now FSX has started a new one. Since this logbook editor just reads the existing logbook data file it seems you still have the problem of FSX corrupting the file. I'd really like to find some kind of total replacement program.
April 6, 201115 yr Moderator I'd really like to find some kind of total replacement program. Why not just make a spread sheet and log it manually? Or you could even order/buy a real log book and use one of those. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
April 6, 201115 yr I recommend the above, you can get a little cheapo one from sporty's and log it in, but you will have to do the math yourselfI just made a spreadsheet and made a data list of all the fields and the I can sort and have it auto tally up the totals Ciao!
April 7, 201115 yr Have you looked at FS Flight Keeper? http://www.aerosoft.com/cgi-local/us/iboshop.cgi?showd,,D10802
April 9, 201115 yr Have you looked at FS Flight Keeper? http://www.aerosoft....i?showd,,D10802 I must agree! After many years and many versions of FS with its built-in clunky log-book, I have thoroughly enjoyed using Thomas' FS Flight Keeper utility since the early days of FS2004. It has many features that I don't even bother to use, but it does logging and historical route displays very well. Plus you can configure the ctriquies quite specific to the aircraft your flying.Thomas is always quick with the support in his own dedicated forum as well. I consider FSFK as one of those must have FS add-ons; right up there with Activesky and RC.Five stars :( Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
April 10, 201115 yr I agree with Idahosurge.I have Lamont Clark's FSX Logbook editor pinned to my desktop and it works great. The advice I received was you can look at the FSX logbook but don't touch it. I lost the first three months of flights to that logbook by trying to edit it.Never go back to the default logbook again! Uncle Greg
April 10, 201115 yr I also recommend FSFK, its worth the asking price alone for the ACARS and moving map gauge you can install to all your aircraft, it really is an indispensable set of tools and works perfectly with FSX. Cheers, Andy.
April 11, 201115 yr Thanks for the response. I downloaded Lamont's logbook editor, but it just hangs when I try to open my logbook. You can fix it with 'FSX Logbook Recovery'. Search for it.
April 14, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the recommendations. I'm now using FSX logbook recovery and Lamont's logbook editor. I'm also trying to stay away from the built in logbook (except for an occasional sneak peak and no editing). It's a little clutsy switching around between programs, but at least everything seems to be stable this way.
