Ok i am currently enroute(for a while now) with the 744 from CYUL to EHAM i'm still cruizing at FL330 my ZFW 274.9 (i know to heavy but i like it :))I am looking at my fuel flow on the lower eicas screen and it indicates that it's using 3100kg per hour per engine so right now i'm using 12400kg per hourMy research about the MD-11 cames out that each engine uses between 2200 till 2500 kilograms per hour with a 45000kg payload(roughly a fully loaded pax)The MD-11 has a maximum range of 6840NM with a total fuel of 146115 kilograms the 747-400 can reach 7240nm with full tanks means 173600kg so yes the 747-400 can fly further then the MD-11 does but can also hold more fuel and pax if the MD-11 would have had the same fuel capacity as the 747-400 then the MD-11 could fly further based on how much fuel each engine usesThat's my result correct me if i made a mistake

Those of you who visit the 747 portion of PMDG know that I am obsessed (its a healthy addictionunsure.gif) with Google Docs. So it is time for me to infect the general forum. This link takes you to an editable spreadsheet where you can edit your data which we can compare. I think I got everything that has been posted, but check over your data. (Everything is in Imperial units)

Interesting test. Of course the fuel burned is not the only indicator of the economy of the flight overall, since maintenance costs come into play too. For example, you can use a higher thrust setting on the engines when in the climb, making them run hotter, but that could still put less stress on the engines because they'll be at that climb thrust setting for less time by getting up to the cruise altitude quicker, where you can then throttle back sooner. It's nice that we can if we wish not worry about such wear and tear, but since the PMDG 737 NG for FSX will allow us to monitor such parameters, that's when we'll really be able to check the overall economy of things.Al
