Scenery Building every time I start FSX

I just added the new scenery config and I'm still rebuilding scenery every time I start FSX. I'm glad I have a more organized scenery config file but was wondering if I should be worried about the rebuilding every time I run FSX, would be nice to get rid of it.

I *think* that fixing my scenery config file has gotten rid of the black screen that I get when I alt-enter or change weather, etc. This is great news. But won't know for sure until further testing. Strange that the scenery config would cause black screens, isn't it?

I have had this happen many a time after FSX reinstalls The cause i have found is that some scenerys create backup scenery config files and as you keep installing the more backups there are and i think fsx loses it way to which file it should be reading. I'm using win7 so i would goto where those files are and create a seperate folder and store all the backups in that folder leaving only the latest fsx scenery config file by itself Hope this helpsSteve

CMP,Once again, THANK YOU!!! Can't thank you enough for taking the time to give me input of that magnitude. I'm going to give the new .cfg a whirl right now and will let you know how it goes. Thanks again buddy.
No problem Hirgab. I hope that you deleted the incorrect FlyTampa St. Maarten entry?Anyway, that renumbered cfg I gave you was more of an example to use or try since I deleted out your ORBX stuff for you to make a new scenery insertion point. If your scenery.cfg is still rebuilding everytime it could be due to two things.a. If you enable or disable ORBX in the ORBX control panel it will always rebuild the scenery.cfg the next time you start FSX.b. Since I renumbered yours, you probably still have a back up scenery.cfg file called scenery.cfg_Orbx_Backup.cfg and when you enable or disable ORBX it could be reusing the original corrupt cfg file, hence the scenery.cfg rebuilds. I am not 100% sure, but you could but you could try setting the ORBX Control Panel to Default FSX, then remove that backup file (scenery.cfg_Orbx_Backup.cfg) but keep a copy of it somewhere else. Then if you have the scenery.cfg that I gave you installed, start FSX, then exit it, then start it again and see if it rebuilds the second time. If it doesn't then go into the ORBX control panel, set a new scenery.cfg insertion point, then enable ORBX North America, start FSX let it rebuild, then exit FSX, then start FSX again and see if it rebuilds the second time. There's a few ways you could try to fix this if the above two suggestions dont work, a simple but more complicated way and an easier but more time consumimg way.1st - You could backup your scenery.cfg and then delete all the entries after the last stock entry of area #115. Then go into FSX and re-add the sceneries back into your scenery.cfg making sure to do so in the correct order. This way is more complicated becuase you will need to manually need to search for the correct folders to add back, but you could use your backup file as a guide.2nd - You could uninstall all your sceneries and start fresh. Just make sure that after you uninstall all of them that you check your scenery.cfg to make sure all the entries have been cleaned out. If they haven't you will need to clean them out yourself, them reinstall all of the stuff again. You could probably unstall everything except for the UTX stuff but I would do everything else including the ORBX stuff. ORBX has a guide on their forum on how to correctly uninstall their products. If I were you I would use the oringal scenery.cfg you posted, then go into ORBX Control Panel, set it to default FSX, then use a scenery.cfg editor to renumber your stuff, then start FSX and exit FSX. Then go into your ORBX Control Panel and set it to North America. Once you do that open the scenery.cfg again and check to make sure all the entries are correct with the Area and Layer numbers matching up.Hopefully this will give you a few ideas on how to proceed and what can cause the problems your having. In any case, the only thing that I know of that can cause your scenery.cfg to keep rebuilding is if the Area and Layers numbers in each entry dont match up, or if your enable or disable ORBX then you will get a rebuild the next time you start FSX. If you dont touch anything in the ORBX control panel or add annthing to FSX, then it shouldn't rebuild the next time you start it.Let me know how you make out after you have a look at this stuff and/or give it a try.

You know cmp, I'm embarrassed to say that I forgot to delete the double St. Maarten entries. Once I did delete the right one, it stopped rebuilding (I also added back the FTX stuff too)! My black screens (which use to happen A LOT) has been cured as well (I have struggled to fix this problem). I'm soo giddy right now I think I'll fly a Paris to Venice route tonight (actual flight I'll be taking in a week! biggrin.gif) Thanks again cmp.
