Hayden, have you configured your sound card. If you have the incorrect speaker config ie set for 5.1 surround and you are only using 2 speakers, you will not get engine sounds in the cockpit. Also you will get distortion when panning outside of aircraft. Check your fsx config to see if pmdgsound.dll has been loaded. Otherwise delete your fsx.cfg and rebuild another one. Backup first so you can re apply any tweaks you have added.CheersJulian

Hello,I haven't looked at your other post, but I can confirm that PMDG engine sounds are handled by FSX alone, and to the best of my knowledge do not depend on external dlls. The dll files only provide cockpit switch/apu/air conditioning/avionics/control surface sounds - not engines. If you are having engine sound trouble there could be a number of fixes, three basic ones posted below:1: Make sure your speaker configuration is set to 2.0 / 2.1 or Stereo in whatever audio manager you use (e.g. Realtek)2: Make sure engine sounds are above 0 (preferably at least 50) in the FSX sound options/settings page.3: Make sure that you PMDG747-400 folder in the airplanes directory contains 'sound.GE', 'sound.PW' and 'sound.RR' folders, and that the each folder contains a 'sound.cfg' file, as well as numerous .wav files.Do other aircraft work correctly? What about externally?Post back with your findings...

You can see if the options.dll and sound.dll were properly installed by starting up FSX and loading a PMDG aircraft. Once loaded, check the menu bar and look under Addons. You should see PMDG Sounds and PMDG in the Menu. If not, the dll's did not properly install and you can fix this by looking in the dll.xml file (located in the same folder as the fsx.cfg) and make sure those PMDG entries are there. If not, I would suggest totally uninstalling PMDG, then reinstalling. If you have more PMDG aircraft, they also install the sound and options.dll so that might be why you were never asked to accept them when you first started up fsx. They are already properly installed in the dll.xml. You can also go on PMDG's website and click on support and look for problems related to the dll.xml. There, they have an example of a properly formatted dll.xml and you might want to compare yours with that one. Best regards,Jim

Hayden,I noticed you've had a few PMDG posts in the last few days. I'm not sure if you knew it or not, but PMDG does have their own section/forum here in the Avsim forums. Not that you can't post questions here, but why not post in the area that specializes in the product your having issues with?

This is NO issue with PMDG 747-400 but if you have an old unistall FSX and you never did a registry clean and then reinstall fsx again it will cause an error with the sound files on fsx only when flying the 747. You will have to unistall fsx in control panel not on disk after that its so important to do a registry clean, Then you have to do a clean install of FSX that will solve the problem.
