I haven't flown FSX for months. I got too frustrated with the endless tweaking, not-good-enough performance, and lack of cash for my desired upgrade, so I put my rig away (E6700\4GB RAM\8800GTS 640MB card) and that was that. But I'm jonesing and I need to fly again. My target is good performance with FSX + ORBX NA scenery + FEX. Nothing else. No frame-killing super planes or AI Traffic.Without splitting too many hairs, will an i5 CPU (760 maybe) and a 1GB 560 card and 8GB of RAM actually let me fly around the ORBX scenery, including cities and larger airports, with smooth-osity, or will I end up throwing my computer out the window because I just spent $800 for a 5% increase in FPS? Also, would FSX prefer an low-end i5 and a high-end 580, or an high i7 and a low 560?Thanks. :Ying Yang:

Well, I went from the e8400(3.6Ghz) to an I5 2500K and enjoyed a 100% frame rate increase, and that's before overclocking.

Like the man says - better with an i5-2600kK, C1. www.infonec.com (Toronto) pices are:ASUS P8P67..............$149ASUS ENGTX560 oc'd......$205Intel i52600k...........$300 You will likely get better from CNIX, or your favorite vendor, but those are close enough. It WILL need overclocking to 4.something, but the SB is easy as heck to oc, and they will do 4.5 on air.Cheers

Thanks (to you and FnN), I'll price those parts with my computer dude and see what he says. He usually gives me parts at an average retail price and adds $50 to throw them in. I have an Antec 900 case with lots of fans, so assuming my brain can handle OCing, my case probably can.And you think this setup will handle FSX + ORBX with smooth-osity? That's the alpha and omega of my upgrade quest. I've got to get good performance flying around in my ORBX scenery or it's of no use. I want to be able to handle cities and airports without my rig having an asthma attack and having to go for a nap.

My system allows me to fly anywhere save on the ground at KSEA within the ORBX PNW scenery at 20+ fps, in complex 3rd-party planes with REX2 HD, no less. It's all about the overclock and the tweaks.

... and you can expect 30 with the new proc., C1. I could never get the external limiter to be consistent, so I just lock the sim at 30, flying all the time at SEA, KORS, Darrington, Don Grovestine's Victoria+, etc.. oh, yes - Portland area, too. Life is good at 4.8. It's about time!
