ATC Program

Featured Replies

Have been looking for an ATC program other than RC 4 and have not had any luck. Surely with all the developers out there that someone has done one. Is RC4 It?? Would really like to find something that is a complete ATC such as ground, ect. Any Suggestions. ThanksBrad

There are quite a few applications that try and give you a more realistic feel, as far as the ATC perspective goes. Radar Contact 4, ProFlight Emulator, VoxATC are among the best rated. I use ProFlight Emulator myself but there seems to be a big buzz regarding VoxATC. You can take a look at this thread : http://forum.avsim.net/topic/336619-sids-and-stars/Although the thread was started to gain more information on what application has incorporated SIDs/STARs, it has grown into a full blown discussion regarding which one of the above mention applications are best at what they've been designed to do. I'm sure you'll learn quite a bit from it. Cheers,

I have had RC3 and then 4 for ever and am fed up with it. It was wonderful when it was released (there was nothing else) but to keep on hearing the same 10 or so voices (some of which sound "made up" or "pretend" though might actually be genuine) all over the world for the last five years or more (especially the "funny" coments) has grown incredibly tireseome. It also seems to ignore reality some times and will nag and nag and nag at you for no easily understandable reason.I bought PFE and could not make head or tail of it: it involves the use of two programs concurrently and a huge amount of preeparation, faffing about and swapping files fro one place to another. I was really disappointed that I couldnt get it to work because on the face of it it appears very promising.RC5 has been promised since I was in nappies but at least they dont announce release dates which then fall flat, like other developers do, but is looooong overdue (in the "much needed" sense rather than "late in arriving").I am going to look at Vox ATC after having read the coments here.(Note to all software developers: have all you documentation read, checked and used by people who were not involved in the program development - the avereage customer who is starting the program from scratch. Very often the manuals are written from the standoint of the developer instead of the average joe simmer who is new to the philosophy, funcionality, quirks and usage of the program).

Hi northridge,I've just tried the 7 day trial of VoxATC and it looks very promising indeed. I can make out that a lot of work has gone into their new version. Unfortunately, I would have loved it if it was available for FS9 but it has done wonders with FSX. I only use PFE and I didn't think anything else would come close but VoxATC has pulled itself out of the ashes and it looks far better now than what it was when it was launched. I might even consider purchasing it. PFE is a breeze after a while. Yeah it does take a while to get used to as there is quite a bit of work that needs to be done from the users end but at the end, it does pay off. Definitely worth the effort. If you could be a tad more patient and give PFE another chance, I'm sure you'll be surprised at what a big step it is over applications like RC4 (which I don't like one bit)Cheers,

Hi Krazyk,I saw some videos of PFE and I liked it. But , I have read on other forums when I searched google, and I found that it doesn't work well with time acceleration and someone said that he downloaded the update from their website and it had a trojan discovered by Kaspesky. Also, when he uninstalled it, it removed some .dll files from system 32 folder. I really want to get it but I was put off with what I found. Do you have an anti-virus program? Have you uninstall it and was it OK? I would like to buy it, but I need some feedback. thanks

Hmm, never experienced either of those issues. I have used it time and time again with acceleration and it's never caused any sort of issues. It works beautifully. I have uninstalled it on my previous machine and it only deleted the stuff it had installed. Did not touch any of the system files.Yup, I had AVG on my previous machine and have AVG on my current one too. I, as well, have the habit of scanning new applications before I let them modify anything on my system and they did not reveal anything. All files and/or updates were clean.Let me know if you need to know anything else specific to PFE and I'd be more than happy to give you all the possible details before you bring out the big bucks ;)Cheers,

Ohhhh. Is it only for FSX? (I have been thinking of trying something other than my current RC4...)
So, you can use time acceleration without ant problems?
I suspect all ATC will have some sort of problem with accelerated sim-rates. AI disappears above 4× sim-rate so there's one major pitfall. Even FS built-in ATC stumbles at faster rates as there's no time for the sim to complete playing one wav before the next is called (listen to a couple of loops of MS built-in ATIS at 2× and at 4×). Consider how well RC4 handles the acceleration; I expect the other applications will behave in the same way.Regards,D

Krazyk: VoxATX not for FS9? **** ¿¡%$ ç+@º **** !!!!!!!! etc. Nam1394: I accept that I am far from being patient but I tried twice (first networked which was a big mistake) and then "in-house", but I´m afraid I just didnt understand what I had to do. The documentation is confusing, too chatty and keeps referring to the previous version, presuming that we all had it and know how to make it work.If I had had someone hand-holding me through at least the first steps perhaps I would have made it. I was really disappointed because I had heard such good things about it. And yes, uninstalling removed two .dlls - the "OCX..." one and something else. Also my NOD32 deleted a PFE.exe file after installation saying it was most likely a trojan. I admit that I am not good at "learning curves": I nearly gave up on the iFly 737 (can you imagine losing out on that!!?) because of the AT/CH issues but thanfully Steve Masson and the iFly pilots really just wont let you give up!)Thanks for the input.

As regards, two issues mentioned here about PFE.1. Any virus reporting is false. To install the programme diable your virus programme and then "allow" any files that it subsequently doesn't like.2. Acceleration can sometimes be a problem. But not always. The recommended value is x2. I don't go beyond that because I also use the CIVA INS wehich also doesn't like more than x2.PFE seems a little complicated at first and we have all had teething troubles getting used to it. But once set up it really pays off. The latest release 2.14 addressed a number of issues which make it about 97.3% perfect. It could still have a few extras but for the moment it will do.vololiberista

It hasn't caused any problems so far. I should add that I only use 4x acceleration. Haven't given 8x or 16x a try, maybe accelerating it to those speeds starts affecting PFE. Once again, if someone else does accelerate to those speeds, they'll be able to give you better information on this but as far as I know, it won't/shouldn't go erratic.Cheers,

Yes Dave & northridge,VoxATC doesn't support FS9 anymore. Sad.:(

Could you give us more info regarding the uninstallation and deleting some dll files from the system folder?

I have never needed to delete dll files from the system folder etc. PFE installation is just like any other except that one or two files seem to trigger a false response from some virus checkers.vololiberista
