FS9 Keyboard Problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys,I cannot get the F2 key to engage the reverse thrust function of FS9, regardless of aircraft used. Have uninstalled FS9 and reinstalled it, no joy. I can engage it manually on the aircrafts using the mouse, in all airciraft, but the keyboard is useless, at least this key. All other keys work as advertised. This just happened. Before that it was working like a charm. Any ideas?Yorktown42

Try press "F Lock" key if your keyboard has it. Mine does. I have to press it to make the F buttons work. Is it just F2 that doesn't work or all F keys?

Hi,Make sure that in FS the F2 key is still assigned to reverse thrust and that your engines are at full idle using the F1 key.

Try resetting the keyboard assignments that usally works for me.

Sorry, friends. Many thanks for all your help, but tried all of the suggestions, except for assigning the F2 key individually (tried as I can, I cannot see "reverse trhrust" or anything like it in any of the funtion lists in assignments-otherwise I would have assigned this to a joystick button and done away with the keyboard long ago). I am going to try changing the keyboar to a different one and see if its a board problem, althought the F keys seem to work in the word processing mode. But I am going to give it a shot. Could it also be that although I unistalled and reinstalled FS9, it was not a complete uninstall and there could be some unresolved issued still lurking in retained files or folders? Although in my past life I was a real pilot, I am not a computer or FS whiz, so I maybe grasping at straws here. If the change of key board does not cure this, I don't know what else to try. Any other ideas, sing out. In the meantime, I'll keep you posted. All of this might have been academic if I had found a truly working throttle controller with a true reverse function, but the dedicated throttle (saitek) set that I bought when it first came out did not work as advertised; but then again maybe it required more programming than I was able to handle. Eventually it refused to execute most commands. Anything that works out there that one can , you know, 'plug and fly"?

By default, F2 is set to reduce thrust, not reverse thrust specifically. But if you're already at idle it should engage reverse, just like pulling the throttle back through the gate. The trick is already being at idle, so as others have said press F1 (idle thrust) then F2. That really should work: it's only a keyboard problem if F2 doesn't reduce thrust at other times. Other possibilities: - I've had problems in the past with a loose throttle control which made it impossible to set idle thrust and stay there. Pressing F1 was immediately overridden by the throttle which refused to stay at idle, which then meant no reverse thrust. A quick twist with an allen key sorted that. Not sure if you're using a separate throttle but if you are it's worth a look. In a similar vein it might be worth recalibrating your throttle control if you have one. - You can only engage reverse if you're on the ground, for obvious reasons. In reality of course that depends on squat switches on the landing gear closing on touchdown. In FS, it's a more inexact matter of all the modelled contact points being on the ground, and that's not always accurate. There's a known problem with autobrakes not working properly on some models as a result, and while I've never heard of the same for reverse thrust it would sort of make sense. Wouldn't have thought it would be a consistent problem for all aircraft you have though.

When you hit the f2 key to operate reverse thrust, you have HOLD the f2 down until you hear the reverse engine sound.(Not just tap it briefly)If you know anything about adding third party gauges there is one (which I use )which you can set by clicking on it (on descent or approach )that automatically sets your spoilers and reverse thrust ,which then operate without further input from you on touchdown. This gauge doesn't work on all aircraft (for instance the Overland MD11)but for the usual Poskies,Pa Abuses ,Vistaliners etc its fine.cheers Andy
