Fastest Military Aircraft

Featured Replies

Greetings!I am searching for a military a/c that will go 2.0 Mach or faster. I currently have te VRS F/A 18. It's of great quality and performance; however, not fast enough. Can someone recommend a faster a/c, but of good quality?Johnny

Check out the Chengdu J-10 Vigorous Dragon by Bear Studios. Really nice aircraft, does Mach 2 at high altitude and Mach 1.2 at low level:http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=bearj104-10.jpg5-10.jpgOr maybe the IRIS F-14, which is another good one, and that is a bit faster at Mach 2.3.Al

Why do you wanna go faster?I've never really flown any military jets..what's so fun about flying them?

There is one i enjoy more than any other when trying to manage the Speed / Fuel / Altitude equation , best sustained speed M2.2 , the Aircraft in question is the prototype Northrop YF 23 , pure push button flying mind you is required to maximise accent rates to 64,000 feet and with micro adjustments to turbine output to a final 94% massaging flow rates. Keep the Fuel consumption monitored you can go over two thousand miles in an hour long flight, there are plenty of systems to click through during the experience as the entire flight is pre programmed and executed without touching the stick after takeoff.Just firewalling the throttle will burn through the fuel in 25 min at top speed, and though it handles very well through the entire envelope, the plane includes a functional ejection seat to blow yourself out of danger if you make a mistake. It was one of my favourite projects and i regularly use it trying to break my own speed/ distance record when the mood is upon me to suspend reality and shred this sled up the entire West Coast in an hour staying just outside of ATC control online, my MP moment of misbehaving, practicing to get all the way from Edwards AFB to Ford Island one fine day .

Try doing this in a DC-10:harrier4.jpgAl

Yeah....that's what I used to believe, as well in the past 15 years until I tried the VRS F-18 and it changed my mind. There's a lot of fun in going high and fast...Or just going from one country to another under speed...just for fun...and it is alot of fun ! :(

SR-71 Blackbird...! Holds many records and I recommend reading up on her..! She was way ahead of her time...! No longer in service so we think...

Yes Reconnaisance officer Blair Bozek and his pilot Dan House, were personal freinds of mine. Based at the time at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk. Last I heard from Blair was, they had to bail out over the south China sea and now has a desk job.Alpha-sim had a very good sim of the aircraft, I believe they was taken over by Virtavia.

The F-111 will easily do 2.52M and it has a long range.Alphasim F-111 Aardvark , now under the Virtavia brand name.It was made for FS2004 and requires a FSX compatible panel , then its the best flying model currently available for FSX.There are two freeware FSX compatible panels available for it.I like the Superbug , but it like most military fast jets has a horribly overdone inertia. The only two military fast jet aircraft that I have flown that have precise and crisp nose pointing capabilities arethe F-111 and the YF-23.If you want to test the nose pointing , get down to 30' to 50' AGL and weave between trees at 420 to 450 knots , I can't do that in the Superbug , but its a breeze in the F-111. CheersKarol

Regarding the SR-71 Blackbird (Virtavia), does anyone here owns it? I you do, what are the texures like....is it of great quality (like the Superbug), or atleast close to it? I'm sort-off inclinding towards it, but I am scared of it not being of a good graphics....Can someone provide some feed-back, please. My CC is itching :( Johnny

The external graphics are good. Its a hard and inflexible aircraft to fly.Additionally it has a normal style of instrument panel, no radar , no navigation suite, which means most of the time you will have no idea of where you are.As one SR-71 driver stated " You have never been lost until you have been lost at MACH 3.0"If all you are after is eye candy , then stick with the superbug, you will be hard pressed to to match it.You are going to have to decide whether you are after eye candy or capability.CheersKarol

Too bad I didn't read your post on time--- I just threw away $35.00...What a waste of money! :( Oh well, ni modos !

If you refer to the SR-71 , then no , its not a waste of money its nice and if you persevere with it and learn itsoptimum operating altitudes , you will enjoy it. From memory the climb was in steps and needing an occasional slight gently descent to accelerate for next climb and max cruise ASI . Again from memory it has a limiting KIAS of about 327 (due density height) , but rest assuredthat is fast and its ground speed will astonish you. That indicated airspeed is a weird presentation , when I zoom climb the F-111 to over 100,000' it alwaysamazes me to see 80 KIAS showing when the aircraft is going faster than the speed of sound.Enjoy the SR-71 , thats the beauty of Flight simulation we get to fly so many wonderful aircraft.Forget the eye candy just enjoy , real world I have flown some battered and tatty aircraft that are worn , tired andnot very pretty , in some if you ate food while flying in them you were guaranteed to get food poisoning , yetwithout exception they were a delight to fly.CheersKarol

Yes, my apologies...I was too fast to review it. It is not a waste of money; it is actually a descent a/c and challenging to fly but certainly not a waste. I agree, not in the eye-candy line ; however, it performs nicely.

And my apologies also , my earlier comments on the SR-71 were too brief and hasty. From memory , a long time ago I did a google search and found a wonderful detailed description on how to fly the SR-71in the Flight Simulator, unfortunately I cannot remember where I found it and am unable to provide a link. With regardsKarol
