June 8, 201114 yr Hi guys, for some time I fly in FS9 again (after a long periode of FSX) and I´ve setted the FPS on 40 FPS. It sticks to that value most of the time (No wonder, the system is good enough to work with FSX.). Sometimes it goes down a bit, e.g. at major airpoprts a loss of 4-5 FPS. I´ve heard that is isn´t that useful if you set the FPS too high. This will strain the CPU more then enough. So I´m wondering at wich value I should set it? Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
June 8, 201114 yr 40-5=35 so set it to 35 and then turn off the FPS read-out on the screen and enjoy FS.

Think of the last time you went to the movies, & how fluid, & smooth the movie was, industry standard for motion picture film is 24 fps, which makes the frame to frame change indistinguishable to the human eye.Ergo,...running fs9 at any fps higher than 24 fps is unnecessary.eaglewon

Even 40 compared to 24 is night and day!Not even worth arguing. Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
June 8, 201114 yr I wish people would get over this 24 FPS movie screen crap every time a FPS topic comes up. Your computer screen IS NOT the same as a movie.
June 9, 201114 yr Your monitor (which I guess is a LCD) updates at 60hz and locking the fps to 60 is the way to go. Won't get smoother than this.As mentioned before, ignore the BS about locking to 24, 30 or whatever.

So I´m wondering at wich value I should set it?I've locked mine at 36fps and have been happy with that for years. I haven't felt the need to raise it more than that. I tried more (variety of settings from 37fps to unlimited) but didn't see much of an improvement, also when I leave it unlimited or over 60fps things start to slow down in the more detailed sceneries or areas with more AI.On all the PCs I've used FS9 on there is a considerable difference between 24fps and the 36fps I've stuck to - Things are very smooth and fluid compared to at 24fps where they just aren't.It is true that setting FPS too high can strain the CPU without the user seeing too much graphical benefit. I guess it can depend on the system you are using and how powerful it is. Test things out and see what fps work best for you, based on my own experience I'd recommend 35-36.
June 9, 201114 yr Author Just made my way back from Corfu to Athens with frames locked at 35. This time I found it not that smooth like it had been at 40. So I´ll experiment arround a bit. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
June 10, 201114 yr for what it's worth, i'd say mess around and see what's pleasing to you and then as a previous poster said, turn off the fps indicator in the sim and ENJOY flying.everybody is going to see things different and with so many different systems and configurations(ie; addons, video card, cpu, memory, etc) it's an individual preference. what may look fluid to one person on their machine may look like crap to somebody else.that's my 2 cenbts worth. now i'm broke lol
