June 22, 201114 yr Hi all I've a question about the FSX optimisation : What about the verticale optimisation ?There are some parameters about this, :- FSX settings - FSX.CFG : ForceFullScreenVSync=1 or 0- nVidia control panel or nvidia inspector : verticale sync. enable or not- FPS_Limiter how set these different settings for optimal use ?For example I use FPS_limiter to 30. I set illimited in fsx settings. But what setting in FSX.cfg (ForceFullScreenVSync =1 or 0 ? ) and in the nvidia control panel (verticale sync. enable or not ?) ?Actually I've :- In FSX- My FSX.CFG (with bojote optimisation : http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html )[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14[bufferPools]Poolsize=0RejectThreshold=131072[TERRAIN]AUTOGEN_DENSITY=3DETAIL_TEXTURE=1LOD_RADIUS=4.500000MESH_COMPLEXITY=100MESH_RESOLUTION=24SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=10TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=26WATER_EFFECTS=5TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=2000 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1700 [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460.0]Mode=1920x1080x32TriLinear=1[Display]RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.0RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.0RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.0RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=0.8ActiveWindowTitleBackGroundColor=0,28,140,64ActiveWindowTitleTextColor=255,255,255BLOOM_EFFECTS=0ChangeTime=4.000000InfoBrakesEnable=FalseInfoLowerLeftBackGroundColor=255,0,0,128InfoLowerLeftTextColor=255,255,255InfoLowerRightBackGroundColor=255,0,0,128InfoLowerRightTextColor=255,255,255InfoOverspeedEnable=FalseInfoParkingBrakesEnable=FalseInfoPauseEnable=TrueInfoSlewEnable=FalseInfoStallEnable=FalseInfoUpperRightBackGroundColor=0,0,0,0InfoUpperRightTextColor=255,0,0NonActiveWindowTitleBackGroundColor=24,33,87,64NonActiveWindowTitleTextColor=255,255,255SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40TextureMaxLoad=30TransitionTime=4.000000UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0WideViewAspect=True[sCENERY]DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=4LENSFLARE=1MAX_ASYNC_BATCHING_JOBS=3SmallPartRejectRadius=4.0[Main]DisablePreload=1HideMenuFullscreen=0HideMenuNormal=0Location=328,132,1368,910,\\.\DISPLAY1Maximized=1SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\AirplanesSimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\RotorcraftSimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehiclesSimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\BoatsSimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\AnimalsSimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\MiscUser Objects=Airplane, HelicopterProcSpeed=18675PerfBucket=7SimObjectPaths.6=SimObjects\UT2 Aircraft[GRAPHICS]AC_SELF_SHADOW=1AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=0ALLOW_SHADER_30=1COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1D3D10=0EFFECTS_QUALITY=2GROUND_SHADOWS=0HIGHMEMFIX=1IMAGE_QUALITY=0LANDING_LIGHTS=1NUM_LIGHTS=8See_Self=1TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048TEXTURE_QUALITY=3Text_Scroll=1SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED_10=1693500672SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693500672nVidia InspectorMy computer : 2600K OC to 4.7GHz, 4Go DDR3, Geforce 460 1MoOn Aerosoft Orly airport, without any AI traffic, my fps are between 15 and 20 fps only ..... June 22, 201114 yr This can often be a case of 'try it and see'. Everyones system is different and many of us have success with one setting whereas others don't.Some find limiting framerates help and others don't. Personally I have been limiting between 35 and 45 since I've ben running fsx. Any lower gets stuttery and any higher leads to slow texture loading for me.As far as vertical sync is concerned, don't use it unless you are getting texture tearing. If you are running with framerates below the refresh rate of the monitor then this is unlikely. V Sync can cause performance hits. You really need to try these things for yourself.IAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
June 22, 201114 yr Author Ok thanks butIt seem to me that many settings are the same things, are redundant :For example : I want to enable the verticale synchronisation, what I must set :In FSX settings ----> "unlimited" or "limited" ? In FSX.CFG ---------> ForceFullScreenVSync=1 or 0In nVidia control panel : verticale sync. enable or notOne of them is sufficient ? Or all at the same time ?
June 22, 201114 yr The frame limiter is not connected to vertical synchonisation, so if you want vertical synchronisation, you have to enable that seperately. The frame limiter is a device that sets a limit to the FPS that FSX can produce. As such, it should free up memory for other tasks and thus create a smoother flying experience. However, FSX's frame limiter appears to be malfunctioning, sicne putting it to unlimited can result in better FPS for more people. You can then use an external FPS limiter to make sure you don't get stutters. As for vertical sync, only enable it if you get texture tearing, as Ian said. You don't need to enable it in FSX and the nVidia control panel. Only use one or the other. June 22, 201114 yr Ok I understand better now :( Thank for your help :)Regarding Vsynch... if you get either tearing, or wavey distortions in the scenery as you pan aroundor change views, force vsynch on (best in nvidia inspector, leave the line out of fsx.cfg).Personally, I get better results (fewer blurries in dense urban areas) with limiting frame rates at 30 in fsx and not usingthe external limiter, but I agree: Try it and decide what works better on your system. June 22, 201114 yr Commercial Member With unlimited fps, the next frame is drawn as soon as the last frame is finished. The time between frames is constantly changing. In rain or snow this looks bad.FSX or rather DX, is designed to work on pre-rendered frames between frames. To do that the frame rate must be limited so there is spare time between frames. With an i7+GTX570 class PC, I would set the GPU to all defaults as with “let the app decide” but increase the pre-rendered frame buffer to max. Then I would set all the FSX eye candy on max and set limited to 15fps to start with, and see if it can be maintained steady when low over urban areas and with rain.If you find 15fps too slow, try 17, or 19fps. 21fps would need half as much cpu power again than 15fps.If you want faster frame rate, then reduce the shadows, autogen, water effects, mesh, and texture res. This is 15fps on i7-960+GTX480 IndonesiaDefault FSX, Ideal Flight, codelegend BB58TC Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
June 22, 201114 yr Commercial Member It may be possible to gain a slight performance improvement from an external limiter. However, when you choose internally limited in FSX, there appears to be a substantial decrease in fps available. This has been consumed by the look ahead buffer setup, so there's really nothing to worry about.with the internal limiting of FSX.Steve Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

But how, that is the question :(My guess is that that is as good as it gets over a highly detailed airport. If you like the look of better scenery out the window, try setting lod_radius=5.5This will give you a wider area of detail. Your performance may suffer, but it looks great. Also be aware that FSX will reset this value to 4.5 if you make any changes to the settings in the game! Bert
