IRS alignment issue

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm posting here because I have a little problem with my PMDG MD 11. Everything works properly except the IRS that take too much time to align...For example look at this video : http://www.youtube.c...h?v=1vaAsbs5OPoOnce the three switches are on the NAV position at 2:00 everything appears on the ND a few seconds later, but when I do exactly the same, my ND appears like this for about 5 minutes before I get all the information :569588issue.jpgWe can notice as well that I initialized the IRS in the FMC...Does anybody have the solution ? It's very annoying :(Thanks in advance !Sam.

You do know that it takes about 10 minutes for these things to properly align, right?Reading the tutorial that was included with the plane would help you a lot. YouTube videos leave out a ton of stuff.Like they always say: the book was better than the movie.

Sam, If you follow a normal preflight flow the units will have aligned about the time you're ready to go. I normally allow 15 minutes to power the aircraft up and load a flight plan, review charts etc. As long as you get those 3 switches ON as early in the startup process it shouldn't be an issue.Having said that, you can always reduce the align time using the options menu.

Same here. Ground power on and then switch those 3 switches to NAV. for the next 10 minutes i'm busy with fmc programming and cockpit preparations. At the speedtape in your PFD it says "No Taxi" as long as the process of align takes :)

i am glad you don't fly the real airplane then. it would really annoy you.

If you were to do real cockpit procedures and checlists you would find that the inertial navigation system is set to align almost as soon as the cockpit is powered up. That said it can take 15-20 minutes for the align procedure to complete during which you must not move the a/c. During this time you would of course normally be doing the rest of your pre flight checks etc. You may have a secret fast align click area which wil cut the time to 5 minutes or thereabouts.Being able to click and fly as if you were driving a car is as unrealistic as it gets!In my VC10 model I have 100's of checks to do. It's at least 15 minutes before I'm ready to start the engines!!! That's real!!vololiberista
