New build, poor performance

Featured Replies

HelloJim with all due respect that goes against the vast majority of advice in this forum.
It's also inaccurate advice carried on by posts such as this. What I should do is post a FS9 screen shot of OVC and a FSX screen shot of OVC with my ATI card and you'll see where it is inaccurate.

HelloJim I was not refering to how accurate clouds are rendered with ATI vs Nvidia.I was only pointing out that the performance i.e smoothness, in heavy cloud scenarios is very much betterwith a comparable Nvidia card.It is pretty much accepted that ATI suffers with smoothness in these situations thats why you will find that most here are are using Nvidia.I moved over to Nvidia cards after many ATI products and the difference is noticeable.

The advice is inaccurate, not the clouds. My FS9 with my ATI card is smooth as silk in heavy cloud situations and there are not "levels of smoothness. It either is smooth or not, just as a person is pregnant or not. And to say that most here are using Nvidia is also an inaccurate statement.

Hello JimIf your frame rate drops when in clouds then your smoothness will alter, saying anything else is totally inaccurate.A read through the hardware forum gives a clear picture as to which is the most popular.Another search about poor performance in clouds will also show that ATI users are most likely to be the ones having issues.I suppose a quick poll will show the relative levels of usage between the two manufacturers.

My frames don't drop. Locked at 60 stay at 60. The ultimate smoothness.1 to 1 so far.Wonder which brand has more problems based on forum posts? Notice how almost every post is about NHancer? Wonder why that is? How come there are no ATI Tray Tools posts or CCC posts? That's right, us ATI folks install our cards, load up the drivers, make some basic settings and then fly. We don't keep playing around with settings and utilities.

Hello JimHave a look at this chart and note what GPU's are being used, not many ATI's among those enthusiasts.https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AuiXjW8fJyDrdC1KZm5fSlJYdnJBaXRRclFuU0U3WUE&hl=en&authkey=CMSSocoI#gid=0

Nvidia users are IQ obsessed, ATI folks just want fly, with max. FPS of course!I went from Nvidia to ATI, I am an IQ freak, now I have a problem...Silly.gif

Attached are my scientific results.

That surely is "Simplified Science" - so even an Ignoramus like meself can understand it..Thank You!Party.gif

Nice!

Hello Jim, hope all is well with you. Locked at 60, but what are you average frames, FSX internal settings (graphics) and what addons are you using and what might you get at a busy airport? Also, would you mind posting your hardware/OS specs? The reason I am asking is I am getting ready within the next 90 days to upgrade and am trying to get some input.RegardsBob

Hi Bob,My data is for FS9. I lock at 60, average 60, unless there are 100-200 AI flights in the area based on Traffic Look or AI Smooth. Every slider is full right in FS9.AMD Phenom II X 4 965 Black Addition Overclocked to 3.74 though I can get it to 4.00 on stock air cooling.2 Gig memoryWin 7 64 Bit ProATI 5770 Gigabyte brand 1Gig stock speeds.I just prefer the overall look of my FS9 over my FSX. To get the same in FSX I would need to cut way back on my AI Traffic and I am not willing to do that.

Hey,Yea, FS9 is a different animal for sure. I will be running FSX so not a real big help. I assumed you were running FSX. Assumptions can sure get you in trouble yes?Why not FSX Jim?Thanks though.RegardsBob

I just prefer the overall look of my FS9 over my FSX. To get the same in FSX I would need to cut way back on my AI Traffic and I am not willing to do that.I think FSX looks ugly even after all the GEX and UTX modules added.
