July 1, 201114 yr Hi all againI built this system to run FSX (i am waiting until I purchase another HDD) so I installed FS9 with all the usual addons, REX, UT, GEPro, etc.. So there I was flying the IFLY 737 and when I approached some clouds my FPS dropped down to 8-12. Now, if this system cannot run FS9, then it sure as hell wont run FSX. Check out my specs below. I know the video card is a little on the lower end scale but comeon, shouldnt this blast FS9 out of the water? My Rex 3d cloud settings are set to 1024-1024 HD which I know if hard on frames but this CPU should be able to handle this.Win 7 64 BitAsus P8P67 pro motherboardIntel I5 2500k overclocked to 4.2 ghzNvidia GTS 450Corsair XMS3 DDR3 8GB 1600Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB 7200 6GB/SCoolermaster Hyper 212If someone could help me out by checking out my screens. I am no computer whiz, so I am wondering if something is not set right when I overclocked. I am pretty discouraged after putting all the money I did into this system with these results. Thanks in advance.

I know its no fun to find out that your new computer will not run FS9 or FSX very good, if at all. It took me a few years to work out my system (Win 7 64, I7-920 @ 3.8, GTX460) to get it were I like it ( I run UTX,GE, no REX) on FSX, So when/if you get FSX try these two tips down belowThe best help I got in running FSX was using Bojote's Tweaks for FSX.cfg file. (sorry i don't know the link to his website, hope some one can give it out and I don't know if he has one for FS9) and using NvidiaInspector to run my AA outside of FSX, Both have help me tremendously in running very high Fpm with high settings Sorry cant help out on FS9, never had it, But you might try running at stock speed with NO OC! with no add ons for now, until you can get the kinks out of your system. Then start adding your addons one at a time, to see which one that may be giving you your problems with low FPM ( IFLY 737? REX?) Try FS9 after you have add an addon and see if it runs good. Hope that helps. Also try running a good defrag program on you computer and use it often. (Don't use Window defrag get a good one online) Your system should have no problems running FS9 and FSX Good luck and don't give up - keep tweaking!
July 1, 201114 yr Hey Fireman,Nothing in your settings sticks out to me as being a problem.I also recommend using Bojote's tweaker tool for FSX. It got me much of the way there, but still required some tweaking with the Bufferpools, Poolsize, and Affinity Mask settings. I've also used Nick N's tweaking guide to help me get everything set up. Unfortunately I've found that while everybody says FSX is not a GPU limited program, when you fly it into weather, the opposite is true. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if the same were true of FS9.
July 1, 201114 yr Hi,It's FS9 he is trying to get running well.Fireman, make sure your video drivers are up to date.
July 1, 201114 yr Try turning off the clouds. If you get good frames, then it is probably the gpu as clouds in fs9 and x (in my experience) take some gpu power, as previously mentioned. You still should check your video drivers as mentioned because I used to run fs9 on a c2duo 2.93 ghz and ati 3650 (both mobile on a laptop), and I had good frames, but when I flew through dense clouds (especially stormy ones) I would get low frames in the same range you are getting. Of course, you shouldn't be getting such low frames because a desktop gts 450 is much more powerful than a mobile 3650; also, ati cards have a problem rendering clouds in fs9 and x sou you should be getting more frames than I was getting. July 1, 201114 yr Author Thanks all for your replies. I'm pretty sure that my GPU is my limitation as I get around 50-60 FPS when there are no clouds but as soon the clouds pop up, my FPS drops.
July 1, 201114 yr "ati cards have a problem rendering clouds in fs9 and x........"I have always used ATI card with FS including right now, and clouds do not cause a problem.

July 1, 201114 yr "ati cards have a problem rendering clouds in fs9 and x........"I have always used ATI card with FS including right now, and clouds do not cause a problem.I personally had a problem with clouds in fs9 and x. It could obviously have been that my 3650 was way too week, but I downloaded a tweak from bojote that greatly fixed the problem, so that is why I assumed ati had problems with the default clouds (I have also read this on these forums). Of course, your statement is more valuable than mine since I currently don't have a powerful ati card, and my experience was with a weak, mobile card. Alfredo Terrero
July 2, 201114 yr Author Alright, finally got a second HDD so FSX can have its own drive. Installed FSX and my addons and running an average of 50+ fps! I dont get it, why does FSX run better than FS9? I'm not complaining but hell, I wish both ran smoothly! I'm thinking that FS9 doesnt run as smoothly on windows 7. Anyone else have this experience?

July 2, 201114 yr HelloJim with all due respect that goes against the vast majority of advice in this forum.Everything is possible, even clouds with an AMD Radeon card - if you turn down the IQ settings in CCC!Coming from a top of the line Nvidai card to a HD 6970 2 Gb, is a major disappointment...It´s playable, yes, but a pain to look at, shimmer, shimmer, everywhere, I get dizzy looking at the gauges, and I´m actually sober right now!
