July 13, 201114 yr I think i might have a problem with my Vsync settings. Here is my rig:SB 2600k @ 4.58 GB memory 1600 (@7-8-7-20)WD 1 GB 7200RpmNvidia GTX 570 When I try to use Vsync in fullscreen I thought there would be a maximal FPS of 60 and when 60 FPS couldn't be made then it would set FPS at 30 FPS. So there could not be FPS of i.e. 40 or 45 fps in Vsync mode. Is this true or is it still possible to get 40 fps in Vsync mode? The problem is that when I set my external fps limiter to 60 everyting is very smooth but when FPS are below 60 fps (I.E. on a busy airport as Heathrow or JFK) I get many microstutters, even when i lock external frame rates on 30 fps. My assumption is that if Vsync forced fps back to 30 fps and I set external frame limiter to 30, my flight is smooth again. Does this make sense or is there no relation between vsync and stutters? My config is a mid-range with a HTPC card ATI HD 5450 i do loose around 5 fps when switching between resolutions. You should try to avoid using VSync don't like it. So I mean you can have 40 FPS, of course !Have a look on this page to optimize your configuration( wich be mine next week ^^ ) : http://forum.avsim.net/tutorials/article/123-fsx-setup-and-tweaking-resource/Best regards, Best regards,Julien FERSING

It is possible to get fps of any value below 60fpsThe problem is that when I set my external fps limiter to 60 everyting is very smooth but when FPS are below 60 fps (I.E. on a busy airport as Heathrow or JFK) I get many microstutters, even when i lock external frame rates on 30 fps. The idea being that the FS engine while maintaining 30 fps can do other tasks better (like loading textures/polygons).It is likely that there is a relation with vsync and stutters. I think you should do more reading on this subject. Search this forum, you will find some interesting stuff. As a side note, I have basically the same setup as yours:i2600k 4.6ghz, 8gb ram 1866, gtx580, Asus P8Z68v-pro. And I don't use external fps limiter, nor do I use the internal one. I use Vsync on 3d application (with Nvidia Inspector) and that takes care of the stutters while keeping FPS more stable. On my setup, it provides a very smooth FSX experience.Pierre Pierre I9 14900K 5.5 64gb ram 6800 RTX5090 Asus Strix Gaming E
July 13, 201114 yr 1) Get rid of the external FPS limiter. Unless you are on an old dual core machine there is zero beneift. (or you like to sacrifice image quality, the blurries etc for the sake of a few FPS). Set the internal limiter to 20-30 and forget about it.The only 'miracle tweak' that has any result IMHO is the 'RejectThreshold' in the bufferpools section. All the others I wouldn't bother with. (HighmemFix I would also add but that is more of a fix than a tweak).2)Vsync is a personal choice. I dont force it in the nvidia drivers but I do add the line in the FSX.cfg.Vsync in FSX for me is a must. The image tearing is not worth it without. I dont see any performance drop via adding the .cfg line and leaving the driver to 'application controlled'If you can live with the tearing then leave it off, but as I said, I am not seeing any perf difference with it on. In-game limiting is still a bit stuttery in my sim.Without vsync, yes, you'll get a bit of tearing but I use Track IR and hardly notice it, plus you get more FPS overall, which is why you use the external limiter.Key thing though: Don't use the external limiter WITH Vsync on... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
