December 20, 200322 yr Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you!!!I am not sure what happened. I began using VATSIM this week and I suspect I have been suspended.Today I got connected several times and every time I had no controllers, traffic or anything, not matter how long I waited. The background of this situation is that on Tuesday, trying to understand how VATSIM works I made a flight using it. I didn't even know how to tune a frequency, and until I figured it out, the guy who had been threatening about suspending me if I didn't get tuned to his frequency, had left and someone else had taken control of Chicago Approach. From then on, that night, everything went smoothly, but today, trying again I found myself in an empty world.Does anyone know how to find out if I was suspended? If I am really suspended I want to file a serious complaint regarding this matter. Thanks Leo
December 20, 200322 yr If you can connect without an error then I doubt you have been suspended. Having said that I would contact VATSIM rather than posting on a "public" forum. Scott
December 20, 200322 yr Very unlikely that you're suspended because of that.I'd check my settings if I were you and see that I try another VATSIM servers (check the list on the VATSIM page).KostaBAW645
December 20, 200322 yr Two things Leo.First you may be better posting this to the Vatsim forum.Second I think you need to do some more reading about how to start using Vatsim.Put a comment in your flight plan 'remarks' box that you are new, either 'Newbie' or 'first flight', 'student pilot', something like that so the controllers know you may need help, that way you are unlikely to get suspended.Don't make your first flights from a busy airport, the controllers may not have time to help you as they try to control lots of other aircraft.Make sure you can fly your aircraft, don't use Vatsim for learning how to actually fly the plane.Learn how to use the software.Remember controllers, like pilots, are real people and have real lives so ATC is not available 24/7 everywhere.Get ServInfo http://avsim.com/hangar/utils/servinfo/ that will show you where ATC coverage is.Finally if you can still connect to Vatsim then you have not been suspended, if that was the case you would be blocked as soon as you tried to connect.HTH and better luck next time.
December 20, 200322 yr Everything that Vulcan said is right on. I'd just add that ATC coverage is not universal, and varies greatly depending on your location and time of day. All that happened to you is that you logged on to an area that had no ATC coverage. As Vulcan said, servinfo is the cure to that problem. Flying on Vatsim can be challenging, but keep at it, it's definitely worth the effort.
