August 3, 201114 yr Circuits are typically performed at 1500FT AAL (above aerodrome level) and within 3-5 NM of the runway. Note that large aircraft such as the 737 will conduct racetrack-shaped circuits rather than square circuits, so you would turn directly onto downwind from upwind and from downwind onto finals.
