August 5, 201114 yr Guys, I tired a bunch ok UK2000 Airport Demos for FSX. They are wonderful, I have a problem before I buy a bunch of them though. The scenery seems to shimmer, like the light poles and runway lights, is this fixible somehow, it looks awful on approach and I'd like to fix it...someone once told me you can mipmap the scenery, would that work? Im currently running a GTX 480 with 16Xs AA. Any help would be awesome. Hopefully I can solve this, Im going to buy all of there airports if I do!Cheers Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
August 6, 201114 yr I use nvidia inspector to increase the anti-alisaing setting to 8xS or 8XSQ that fixes shimmering for me. You can also enable transparency supersampling but it may impact performance. Steve Stephen Munn
August 6, 201114 yr Author Does is 8XSQ higher then 16xS and does it solve the problem completely, can't I mip map the poles? Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
August 6, 201114 yr Full screen AA does little for the transparent textures like light poles, trees etc. 16xS (4xSSAA and 4xMSAA) is already higher than 8xSQ (2xSSAA and 2xMSAA) I would switch to 8xS with 2x or 4x SGSS (sparse grid) transparency AA Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
August 6, 201114 yr I suspect that it may have more to do with mip settings. I'm not sure whether the UK2000 textures are optimised for mipmapping. You could try adding the folloiwng line to the display device section of the fsx.cfg and play around with the settings: MipBias=6 If you stillv get the affect with 6, try 5 or 4 IAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
August 6, 201114 yr 8xS + 2x SGSS (Transparency) is generally the best combination for FSX, when you take into account performance vs. looks. Everything else is overkill and frameratekiller, or it's shimmering. Applies to many sceneries.
August 6, 201114 yr Author Under what section of the CFG does this tweak go? Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
August 6, 201114 yr What tweak? What CFG? These are Nvidia Inspector settings, only usable if you have an Nvidia card.
August 9, 201114 yr It goes in the display divice section. IAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
