Sorry for uploading so much but I couldn't upload the .cfg as just the one file. Anyway all my specs are in the signature and i was just hoping that one of these FSX experts could help me. I have spent 3 weeks overclocking and tweaking still unable to find the prime. I have been getting the BEX error from which I think is because of the overclock but there are so many people with overclocked i5 2500k's which makes me wonder, is is. I though it may have been because of the bufferpools tweak which I got rid of and it still happens sometime along with the APPCRASH. As soon as this is all fixed I will be very close to getting the NGX.

BEX error is kinda pitty...some people say is OC..others related to DEP. First at all...do you really need all that AI traffic? 60m Visibility is more than enough.Autogen from Very Dense to Extremely Dense you get nothing at all... let me check your FSX.CFG and i'll be back Btw...have you checked ******* Tweaking site?

yes well I fly around in Australia where there isn't much traffic. Autogen is better on FPS at extremely dense. NickN said sometime at higher levels it will run better and it does for me. I have tried the tweaking tool and I find fltying at FL350 with 70mi cloud draw you still see where they are been drawn.

Land and sea traffic gives a huge hit to FPS.
i want a bit of land/car traffic but i suppose i don't really care about sea traffic.

Even land traffic by itself can have an impact on performance.Getting FSX to it's prime is relative....do you value eye candy or fluidity more?

i really want eye candy but I am looking for the best blend of both as long as I don't have to get rid of traffic. At EGLL I usually turn it down to about 70%. I read something that Ethan Rayhorn once posted about his machine with the same CPU, he was able to achieve 30FPS at a busy addon airport with 100%, J41, REX and all of those nice things.

I am gonna try some benchmarks at various airports around the world in the PMDG 747-400X. Will be back with results.

Ok so in the PMDG 747-400X at Heathrow with no sea traffic but 10% land traffic and 100% traffic and 60mi cloud draw, I was getting an avergae of 18.35FPS lowest being 11. This is at Aerosoft Heathrow so the Aircraft shadows are off. Next up, KJFK.

Same settings, average 22.5 min 14 and max 30. This is with UTX, GEX, REX and ManhattanX. i think I will finish with FTX ymml

Hey Andrew, I notice you mentioned that you are aware of NickN's posting on SimForums. Have you followed his advice to the Tee?Although I am and IT Professional, I pretty much follow a lot of what he says in order to first get my Windows 7 64-bit setup for FSX, and then FSX itself. I have just recently reinstalled my system as I had a lot of "junk" installed, but I followed his advice as much as possible with my previous install and my FSX was very smooth with what would be now a modest system. Core i5 760, 4GB RAM and nVidia 460GTX, which is OC'd to 3.6Ghz.There are also a few suggestions to FSX settings in the Introduction document that comes with the NGX, if you have purchased that which should help. Read them well and try to follow as much of their advice if possible. It should make a difference. Hope you get it mate!

I have followed NickN's guide as much as I feel i can but I may go back to it for a bit. My main problem isn't really with performance its the stupid BEX errors that I want to eliminate. I also need a little help with overclocking. I have got my i5 2500k at 4.5GHz but when I go to 4.6GHz it boots but freezes when I run the stress test and I have to reset CMOS and start agin, any ideas. Is it a bad chip and only go to 4.5GHz? I did YMML and my results were average of 25.8 min of 16 and max of 48.

Just followed Nick's exact settings and it cause FSX to crash instantly after the load basically, no good. It was an APPCRASH.

Andrew, the i5 2500K is a good CPU. The question then will be what motherboard and GPU do you have?A good friend has the same CPU as you paired with the Intel branded P67 (I think) board, which comes with some special Intel overclock utility specifically for the motherboard. Apparently you run this utility for a couple of hours and it settles down with an overclock. With normal air cooling, using a Noctua CPU cooler, he gets 4.6Ghz and it's stable. To be honest with you, there is not going to be a hugh difference between 4.5 and 4.6Ghz. A lot also depends on your memory and what type of DDR3 it is, such as 1600 or 1800 or 2000, etc.Personally, if you are running a stable system at 4.5Ghz, I would be more tha happy with that, just make sure you have good memorywith the lowest latencies you are able to find. You should be looking at a CAS latency of no more than 7, but less is better.

Andrew, sorry, but I've only picked up now that your specs are in your signature. I can tell you right now where your problem is mate... It's your RAM! Get rid of it... It's only running at 1333 and with you overclocking as much as you are, it WILL cause APPCRASH, etc.You really have 2 options if you want Windows to be stable. Either lower your overclocking, as your RAM is taking a good pounding, or get better memory, something like DDR3-1800 or 2000 with a CAS of around 7.Trust me on this. If you have some cash, go the better memory route, otherwise your system looks spot on. You could also maybe do with either a WD VRaptor of a WD Black series HDD. The Black series has double the cache, which makes a difference. Another new thing that I'm trying is when I formatted my HDD's recently, I left my OS drive as default block size, but I've made my FSX drive, which is a totally seperate WD 1TB Black, a 64K block size. This means that file transfer theoretically should be slightly quicker, but I've only just done this so haven't tested it properly yet.
