What are you guys using for your sound settings?

The reason I ask is because I set all my FSX settings to half way like the manual recommends and left the sound settings inside the FMS all at 100 which were the stock settings but I can barely hear the call outs, the trim wheel or the recirc fans. I tried moving the the general sound setting in the FMC which was set at 50 to 100, but still am not hearing much in the way of what I have mentioned above. I remember in the old days using the FS9 version and the trim wheel, call outs and fans being really loud, but with the recommended settings I hear more wind and engine nose than anything else. In fact when I use the FSX ATC I cant ever hear what they are saying. Sean Campbell

I suppose these things are going to be largely dependant on your soundcard, audio settinng and speakers. I think there is an option in the PMDG menu of the CDU that lets you alter the PMDG specific sounds. Perhaps try that.

Hi Sean, I did not touch the FSX sound settings and tried values from 50 to 100 in the FMC sound settings. Then I found why I was not hearing all of the PMDG sounds: There are 2 main sound sets - FSX and PMDG. For instance, if you work with only one monitor, you hear both all the time and, in this case, if you barely hear callouts or pax signs, just fine tune both sound sets. Otherwise, if you work with more than one monitor, the first one with the main panel holds both sound sets and, as soon as you click on the other monitor (ex. overhead panel), you loose PMDG sound set and you have to click back on main panel to retrieve PMDG sounds. I was not hearing the pushback dialog because I put the FMC on the second monitor as I do with all my addons for ages and never had this issue. We have to discover how to unite both sound sets without loosing properties as stereo and others. The NGX is really a marker in the industry (we shall have now the B.N. and A.N. Flight Sim) so revolutionary is this piece of code. I believe those issues we have are actually dependent of the sound card and, as they claim about a FSX sound bug when changing views, we need to know more about that in order to resolve this different sound behavior: Why we loose PMDG sounds when clicking on the overhead panel on the second monitor? If it is a FSX bug why this does not happen with other airplanes? Or is it just a missing or wrong FSX.CFG exotic sound parameter? Regards,Heron Jr

Hi Sean, It could be a few things - 1) First check that there are no "special effects" enabled on your sound card like - ambience / 3D effects / bass boost / noise cancellatiom / etc - turn them all off !! 2) If 1) didnt help then you can tweak the PMDG channels as you wish - look at the instructions in the thread: http://forum.avsim.n...__fromsearch__1 3) If you cant hear the custom cockpit sound at all then have a look at this thread: http://forum.avsim.n...__fromsearch__1 Thanks,

My sound gets pumped through an external 7.1 dts/THX system, so all my sound settings are low, because i would like to keep the apartment I have, and not be evicted..

Thanks for the input guys.I seem to have fixed it by simply turning the sounds in the FSX UI that I had set all at 50% for Engines, Cockpit, Environment, and Voice, to 25% for just the Engines. Prior to lowering the engine sounds in the FSX UI, the sound settings in the FMC didn't seem to make any difference because all the sounds were drowned out by the engines. Of course I have never flown an NGX, but even sitting in the cabin near the wings didn't seem as loud as what I was hearing for the engines in the cockpit when it was set to 50% in the FSX UI. Now that I lowered the engines I can now hear the fans, trim wheel and callouts. Problem solved. Sean Campbell BTW, its hard to keep up with even my own posts since there is a new post about once a minute then all roll back a page or two in no time.
