August 7, 201114 yr Commercial Member Hi there folks, I was flying an Alaska Airlines route from Honolulu to Anchorage, and I had to leave for a few hours in the middle, trusting the NGX. I checked mileage before I left and everything was fine, including the lat/long waypoints. When I returned, I found that the magenta line had disappeared, and I was free-flying left and right half way between HNL and PANC, when I reality I should have been 45 minutes away. I now have 12,000 lbs fuel and 1200 miles to go. When over the ocean, insufficient fuel is not something you ever want to hear... Any advice? What happened to my plane? August 7, 201114 yr - dont leave the cockpit for 45 minutes- check your FMC for route discont.- check if autopilot is still connected- just dont leave the cockpit for 45 minutes. Tebin Ulrich
August 7, 201114 yr Might have been a discontinuity in your flight plan and the aircraft flew straight ahead at that break in the plan... Matthew Bellette
August 7, 201114 yr Author Commercial Member Definitely sounds correct, after further checking, it appears that there was a discontinuity, but after the waypoint is was supposed to be flying to. I am still not sure what went wrong, but it is my fault for leaving for so long. (As a side note, I have found an alternate airport that I have enough fuel to reach while I sort this out). August 7, 201114 yr You'll need to stay at that diversion airport for 45 minutes, as a penalty. Ron Priever
August 7, 201114 yr You'll need to stay at that diversion airport for 45 minutes, as a penalty. You should be put off duty for a day for leaving the cockpit that long! Regards, Harm Swinkels
August 7, 201114 yr Commercial Member Collin- One habit you should always be in: After entering your flight plan, scroll through it and make certain that what you see makes sense. If there is i disconnect someplace- make certain you understand why... Then you can plan your "cabin cruising" breaks more appropriately! (No picking up girls in the cabin- it violates company policy!) Robert S. Randazzo PLEASE NOTE THAT PMDG HAS DEPARTED AVSIM You can find us at: http://forum.pmdg.com
August 7, 201114 yr Author Commercial Member yeah, and as it works with everything else in the world, if I sit and painstakingly watch the plane if flies fine, but if I look away it goes insane. Anyway, thanks for the advise everyone. Collin Biedenkapp Chief Executive Officer TFDi Design (Invernyx) | Website
