Which motherboard?

Featured Replies

I am looking to upgrade system with a new motherboard, CPU & ram. I think I will be going for a Intel 2500K + 4Gb of PC16000 (2x2gb strips) but I really not sure which MB to go for, I will at a later stage want to over clock the CPU so as I understand it I can't go for a 1155 "H" board, I am on a tight budget so which mother board should I go for?Does it matter as long as it has all the connection that I need? My system at the moment is: - AMD6400+ BE 4GB of PC6400 & a 9800GTX+ 512MB, 550W PSU.Will my 9800GTX+ Hold my new system when build back? would a 560Ti run well with my new spec?Sorry for so many question but need some help as I don't want to wastes my money. Many thanks Mark

I would go with Gigabyte or Asus, and one of their P67 or Z68 offerings. Both brands have offerings with these chipsets in the low US$100's. They each have a bunch to choose from, just based on how you want to mix and match pci slots, sata connections, etc. You don't want to get a crappy board, because some of them are made with lower quality parts that don't stand up to overclocking very well (though I don't know if this is as much of an issue with Intel as it was with AMD boards). I would go for the upgraded graphics card as well, if it's in the budget. I think you'll see loads of difference when you get into weather. Good luck with your new rig!

Go for the Z68 type MB, they are less buggy than the P67.Personal experience: got tired of sending my P8P67Deluxe fm Asus through RMA and returning with the same problems. Purchased a P8Z68v PRO with original BIOS (0401) and working flawlessley since then.Pierre

A friend of mine just used this mobo... I'd go for it too if I hadn't already bought a P67 months earlier http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16813128512
