So I've been toying with the settings on active sky evolution, and all I have to say is, now that I have a nice machine with good framerates. Wow.

Pretty nice isn't it??!!

I can use it pretty well but my machine still lags with FTX YMML and the NGX, sigh.

Another 4gb ram would help Andrew. You should be getting stella performance.

What settings did you find made the best improvements? I struggle a bit with all the options, especially the ceiling limits, suppressions or something. I wish someone would make one where you just press a button and you get realistic looking weather that matches current Metars. Without having to set a million parameters. I just dont have time to mess around trying everything. There should be an option for dummies. They could make it so it currently matches the previous real world metar. then the program would have 30mins to work out how it was going to realistically transition from pouring rain to bright sunshine.

REX Overdrive. It has built in Flight Planner and real-world weather. All you do is select your pre-created FSX flightplan (also accepts FSC & FSNav plans) and it automatically selects textures that are best suited for the weather and flight plan.

I had issues too until I saw some excellent settings provided by other users on the HiFi support forum here on AVSIM. Best regards,Jim

Totally agree! I had ASE but rarely used it with my 'old' system as it was tough on frames especially when flying with some framerate unfriendly commercial aircraft/scenery but now, with my new system, I use it on every flight. I even went out and bought FEX to enhance the cloud textures. Absolutely stunning stuff especially with the recent nasty storms in the Northeast! Best regards,Jim

FSX can't use more than 4GB. It will only help to save those 4GB for FSX but without anything i only use 500mb of RAM so it gives me 3.5GB. my upgrade with the IB setup will include 8GB of RAM.

Wrong! I've had my FSX using 4.2GB at one stage. Don't ask me how I guess it was all that photo scenery and HD textures that did it. Having 8GB reduces chances of OOM and leaves plenty of headroom. Once again, all the big names in the hardware section will all recommend 8GB (or 6 depending on the socket type)

I think if you have more addons that will use external power not through FSX itself, you can use more but because FSX is a 32bit piece of software you can't really use more than 4GB. I think you will also find that a lot who were on the budget decided to use the money saved from not getting 8GB to get a better piece of hardware. I could have saved on the case but why when it is what you look at. As I said my next upgrade will be the equivalent of the 2500k or better if its necessary from the IB line, a similar mid range mobo with good OC features, 8GB 1600RAM purely for the release of newer simulators to come and a GTX 670 if it is released. All planned out. Just go over to the PMDG forum, you will find that a lot recommend to save and get 4GB. I originally wanted to get 8GB but they said it was a waste of $$$.

The NGX with 4 GB is causing some problems

We did all that for you with the default settings. Then I have posted my settings that I use in both FS9 and FSX Mode. Not sure what you mean with your last statement.

Indeed FSX as a 32 bit program can't address more memory as 4Gb, however 8GB will leavemore head room for FSX + loading times are a lot faster with detailed scenery... Running myself 64BIT and 8 Gb :-)
