Hi Jim, I didnt mean to sound like I was knocking Active Sky, I have been a long time supporter and enjoyer, but with so many options I always have the niggling feeling that I might be missing out on something much better. It is easy to spend far too much simming time mucking around options and not flying around.I will have another look at the default settings. What I meant with my last statement was just an idea that occurred to me at the time; I would like real world weather, however in the RW you can see the weather getting worse or better when you look upwind. Obviously no program can predict what the next Metar will be so how about accepting that our SIM RW weather is actually 30mins behind the RW weather, but the benefit is that the program has time to show that break in the clouds coming downwind towards you. Or that rain, or bank of fog. As a RW pilot I spend half my time looking up wind to see what Im about to get hit by. Not much point doing that in the sim at the moment. Takes away a lot of the "realness" for me.

Jim, as an aside, any more updates or new features coming our way with ASE?

Hi, Pinned at the top of the Active Sky Forum, here at AVSIM, in a thread called Jim's ASE Settings.

Indeed FSX as a 32 bit program can't address more memory as 4Gb, however 8GB will leavemore head room for FSX + loading times are a lot faster with detailed scenery... Running myself 64BIT and 8 Gb :-)
What they said.^^ Also running Win7 64 bit with 8gb RAM. The extra RAM makes a big difference in performance, especially in loading times, as already mentioned. CFF Explorer is a great tool to use if you have other programs that like to give you OOM errors and shut down when you have tons of RAM sitting idle; I do some photo editing and it has come in handy. FSX Acceleration does not need it (SP1 and - I think - SP2 can benefit from it, though). The extra RAM only does any good if you're running a 64 bit system, though, as a 32 bit OS will only utilize up to a maximum 3gb of RAM, regardless of how much you have installed. Also, whether you have dual-channel or triple-channel RAM determines what amounts of RAM you can use; triple-channel systems can use 3, 6, 9, 12gb, etc of RAM whereas dual channel can use 2, 4, 6, 8gb, etc of RAM.
