Should I upgrade to GTX570?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I need some opinions on whether I should upgrade or not, I currently have i7 950 overclocked to 4.2ghz with GTX470 SC and FSX generally performs very well. I'm just wondering if the upgrade from GTX470 to GTX570 is worth it or not. Will I see some sort of performance increase with the 570? I really appreciate your opinions. happy.pngThanks!

Intel i7-950 @ 4.2GHz / Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R / 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (4x2GB) / GTX470 superclocked / 2x WD 640GB 7200RPM / Acer 23.5" Monitor @ 1920x1080

Can you do SLI? if so id buy another 470.

All hardware related questions should be posted in the hardware forums to get the most accurate advice. Don't bother with SLI. Unless you need it for more monitors, its pointless for FSX as it is not supported. A 570 is on par with the 480, but an upgrade isn't really going to see you getting that big of performance boost. It will be better for higher AA levels and if you run high resolution photographic textures (including REX HD textures etc) but performance wise the increase isn't going to be much.

I guess I would stick with my gtx470 for now instead of spending $300 for the gtx570. Thanks!

If you're set un upgrading the video card you might consider the GTX560ti instead, it's a lot cheaper & performs similarly I believe. Ryan is right though, you won't get much extra performance.

I went from a 460 (overclocked custom bios to 950Mhz) to a 570 a couple of months back and can run loads more AA and saw about 6fps more on average.

470 to 570 isn't going to do much for FSX.
But will I see faster texture loading and use higher resolution texture in the scenery like Orbx airports?

I did find it helped with the extra memory in and around ORBX areas.

Going from a 470 to a 570 is going to do nothing. For faster loading you need a faster harddrive.

I do not know about most people in the forum, but I never intro's myself, my name is Dilip what if i upgrading to SSD hard drive will any improve any performance increase. Thanks,Naresh

No performance increase. Faster load times and faster texture load times. That's all. Please post hardware related questions in the hardware forum

SSD will help reduce stutters in graphically intense areas due to the reduced texture load times.  It isn't a night/day difference, but it was perceptible to me.   Since then I've started using my SSD as a permanent storage for setup files because it doesn't support TRIM.Dollar for dollar, it's better to spend the money on a faster CPU, 10k rpm hard drive or possibly video card than an SSD.

I just too lazy to upgrade a CPU and motherboard and have to go through all those reformatting and reinstalltions again... That's why I am considering upgrade my gpu rather than CPU and mobo.

As stated, its pointless. Money for nothing really.
