August 22, 201114 yr I really need a new computer to run FS9 as my current laptop really struggles with 3d clouds using active Sky 6.5 on the lowest res using DXT3 textures (~5fps). With simple clouds I get about 18-20fps which is ok.The other addons are a few regional WOAI airlines (UK based), UTE, UK2000 airfields and Scotflight. Occasionally I enable JustFlight VFR. My mesh is FSG 19m for the UK (I'm only interested in flying there).I'm after something sub £200 and wondered if any of the following would be any good. 2 GB DDR2 Memory, 512 MB PCI Express Graphic CardPENTIUM DUAL CORE 3 GHZ = PENTIUM 4 HT 6 GHZ (Ebay 220827175365) a bit vague and likley needs a new graphic card HP XW6000 WORKSTATION GAMING COMPUTER WITH 2 X INTEL ZEON 2.8GHZ PROCESSORS = 5.6GHZ WITH 2048MB (2GB) MEMORY . MATROX 450/NVIDIA NVS GRAPHICS CARD Computer Model Dell Precision 380 Workstation Processor: Intel Pentium 4 (P4) HT 3.4GHz=2 x 3.4GHZ Memory: 2GB (2,048MB)DDR Hard Drive: 500GB Optical Drive: DVD drive Graphics Card: nVidia Quadro FX1400 High-end 3D Graphics (Ebay 260829498156) Apologies for the vagueness of above, I appreciate they would need a better graphics card (NVIDIA 8900GT?) Any help appreciated. Thanks.
August 22, 201114 yr 200 quid? I don't know about the cost of computer parts in the UK, but here in Colombia that would be the budget for an upgrade of parts, not a new system. I'd suggest you to make an effort and increase your budget. But first, which are the specs of your laptop? Can you post the link of the computers you're viewing? August 23, 201114 yr Author Thanks, I know I'm possibly being ambitous but I was hoping 2nd hand/refurbished might get me something.Current specs areDell Inspiron 1525Core2duo T5550 1.83Ghz2Gb Ram, Graphics mobile Intel 965 Chipset (358Mb max I think) Here are some Ebay linkshttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260829498156?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230659565191?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220827175365?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Thanks for your interest and help.
August 23, 201114 yr Unless you really know what you are doing computer wise, I would suggest you consult a local computer shop (not a multiple) . To run what you want you will need something decent in the box. No point in struggling and wasting your money on ebay items that may not work. Talk to the man in the shop and get advice, you never know what he has in his back room ! Good luck
August 23, 201114 yr Author Ok, there are a couple round here so I'll give it a go and see what they have.Thanks.

But because it's a laptop, there is nothing much that you could do. The problem with all the options you gave is that you will end up with a slower CPU. Any desktop Core2Duo coupled with a discrete GPU (any current entry-level one may be enough) will give you an improvement over your laptop. Hope this helps. August 24, 201114 yr If you are thinking about buying refurbished/recycled, you might want to check out RDC's remarketing site >> http://www.rdcremarketing.com/shop/viewproduct.php?i=lenovot410 They do IT replacements for large companies, and sell off what they've replaced in their shop. I've been getting all my computer stuff from them for the last few years and have had no problems. You get a 28 day warranty, which gives plenty of time for any issues to show up. Some good deals there.
