ATC for Hurricane Hunters

Featured Replies

Does anyone know in real life what ATC the hurricane hunters are in contact with when they leave either Biloxi or St Croix?

Should be either Jacksonville or Miami. Most likely Miami.

Interesting info. That was posted in 2004. How reliable can that info be?

http://en.wikipedia....rricane_Huntershttp://en.wikipedia....rent_deployment Note that both military and civilian units are used. http://www.milaircom...requencies.html should give you the lists for both areas. I don't think you'll find the on-line monitoring of these on live-atc.net as a security precaution, probably not allowed. If you want hurricane data that is probably conducted over private frequencies. Also consider this for hurricane information:http://www2.fiu.edu/orgs/w4ehw/. Don't know if they stream. If you have a scanner in the area you can monitor.http://www.arrl.org/news/national-hurricane-center-s-wx4nhc-schedules-on-the-air-station-test

NOAA aircraft operations are based at Macdill AFB in Tampa. Later today I'll post you some Screenshots of some of the NOAA aircraft. Gulf streams, p-3, king air, huey, c-130 are from reserve units of the air force. The 58th out of Biloxi is where they are based. Most of the flights are under Miami center.
