Speed tape moving rapidly

Featured Replies

When using ASE with the NGX, after a while at cruise the airspeed indication tape starts moving up and down quite rapidly. Is this an NGX bug or a problem caused by ASE? Iain Smith

I get this without ASE. Fred.

I get this with ASE too after a while. If you have FSUIPC enable wind/turbulence smoothing. Disable turbulence in FSX. Replace with this in your FSUIPC.ini
TurbulenceRate=0.5,2.5TurbulenceDivisor=40,40,80,80

I use FSUIPC for wind smoothing and it really slows this down. It's to do with the way weather is handled/ loaded into FSX I believe. I've certainly had this on all my addons so I don't think it's PMDG.Dan.

Hey NGX, where is the FSUIPC ini located? Is it the fsx root or within the modules?Cheers.

In the modules folder. There is already entries for those settings so you gotta replace them. They're near the top

I was getting this with ASE; however, I corrected the problem by using the settings in the link below. You must make these changes to the ASE config file for FSX which is down in the APPData -> Roaming -> HiFi -> ASE -> Options -> FSXOptions.cfg. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/343923-jims-ase-settings/ There was a new build of ASE released (SP3) on the 23rd. I have not upgraded to it so cannot say if these settings will still smooth things out. I can say for me making these entries totally stopped the jumping tape issue. I hope this helps,Ed

ASE support advises against any wind smoothing when using direct wind control. Just a heads up for folks reading.

This is the fix.

Those settings above are only for if you have turbulence effects switch on in FSX, which should be disabled with the NGX as per PMDG recommendations

Thanks, what extra will that entry add if I already use wind and pressure smoothing and disable turbulence and variance/ gusts.Dan.Disregard, I posted too late again

That's what that little FSUIPC mod does. When using DWC, that dampens it and stops the drastic behaviour.

Thanks Di. I wasn't familiar with that one. Though with my FSXOptions.cfg set like the one above, no FSUIPC settings need to be added or tweaked for me.

I didn't know this. I have not seen a statement by Jim saying that the config he provided was only for whose who have turbulence effects switched on. Also I do not recall seeing where in the PMDG manual it advises to disable turbulence effects. I know it's not mentioned in the Introduction or Tutorial #1 manuals. Were these both forum posts maybe?

Ahhh sorry. My mistake. I'm getting mixed up a bit haha. Those are for the ASE options. I thought they were FSX.cfg weather options. But PMDG did recommend disabling it as it is unrealistic (to say the least). It basically puts your aircraft in a vacuum and it doesn't work correctly with the NGX

Thanks to all for your replies, especially NGX and Zach. I'll certainly try those FSUIPC mods. Iain Smith

Bottom of page 15 in the introdution manual(PDF version). You can also search for "turbulence" in the search field and it'l point you right to that paragraph :) - Arthur
