January 8, 200422 yr Hello Gang!In my quest for a decent flight planning system for FS2004, I ran into FSBuild. It is kind of pricey at $30.00 US, but can anyone out there tell me if it is worth the money and what are some of the best features it can offer? Thanks for any input!Sincerely,Dennis D. January 8, 200422 yr I just bought it a few days ago.Does the job I need it to do. Has a nice visual flight planner - pretty extensive support for diff products (MSFS, PMDG, Radar Contact, Fly!, and a host of others). A ton of options - most of which I haven't dabbled in yet.
January 8, 200422 yr Hi,I bought FSBuild and I'm happy, I had some problems with the database, but the author fixed it in 1 day. The support is excellent, check the FSBuild forum. If you want automatic flight plan generation maybe it isn't the best option, but it does a good job. I like the flight plans database, the ability to export in many formats and the fuel calculations for different aircrafts (performance is editable). The fligth plan log is very nice too.I was trying to use FSNavigator, but it only runs together with FS and I need a flight planner to run alone, so I bought FSBuild.Sure it has room por improvements, but it is one of the best flight planners available for FS.Try the tutorials....Ulisses
January 8, 200422 yr It's not a moving map is a planner, I'm using in each flight from the Meridian to the RfP for route and fuel planning so it was a well spent money. It has options for everything even for customizing the interface. I'm using it for some time and only yesterday found that could export the PDF briefing with a VA logo.Jos
January 8, 200422 yr I used the freeware version forever...great product and great support if you fly a lot with a diverse group of aircraft that it supports then its worth the $30. If not just use the MSFS FP its OK not great but OK.Tony
January 8, 200422 yr The best feature it can offer is the ability to simulate real world flight plans. This however requires some know how on your part, the autogenerator creates good flight plans but not great ones. I purchased FSB2 about a week after it's release and I have to admit, at first I was underwhelmed by it. Now since I have spent enough time in the FSBuild forum, the documentation, and the product itself I must say it is money well spent. I used FSNavigator and I won't go back because in my opinion if you take the time to learn FSB2 you will have a product that1. Integrates with VATSIM (I haven't tried this yet)2. Provides performance data for different aircraft3. Provides realistic flight plans if you create them manually4. Supports native export to PMDG, PSS, X-Plane, and others
January 8, 200422 yr Hello Again Gang! Thanks for the replies - they help my decision making process. One silly, but important question is, does it integrate well with 2004? Does it export to 2004 in the proper format and stuff or am I looking at tweaking things to get 2004 to understand it porperly? Thanks again!Sincerely,Dennis D. Mullert Sincerely, Dennis D. January 9, 200422 yr Hello Dennis,FSBuild integrates perfectly with FS2004. It also will export to most of the top add-on aircraft. The newext version also will export to AS2004. It's a great program and the support is very good. Worth every penny.
January 9, 200422 yr I just installed the freeware version and it works with SquawkBox, which is what I was looking for...Ed
January 9, 200422 yr Dennis,You may add that my comments are very bias, but I am friend of Ernie Alston. I spent a lot of time with him at the AVSIM conference this fall in Redding. We spent hours and me with lots of beers (grin), going over all the points of FSBuild V2. Without a doupt it is the most comprehensive flight planner available to date, bar none.First it works perfect in FS2004 and I use it with the PMDG 737 and with all my beta work with Radar Contact and not a flaw. The guys have mentioned a lot of its good points and let me add in addition it has a very good built in fuel planner which does an almost perfect fuel plan to match your route. It is IMHO the very best and once you learn all it points, just ROCKsCheersBob Johnson
January 9, 200422 yr Well worth the money Dennis. It's probably the only payware add-on I use every day. Good for long/short flights, all kinds of aircraft and integrates well with the various weather add-ons. Get it!Ben
