if your fan is regulated by cpu temperature (like most of the cpu cooling fans) then yes its normal ...

You should be using RealTemp or CoreTemp to check your CPU temperatures anything else supplied by your motherboard manufacturer for example only tells you the temperature of the CPU as measured externally by the temperature diode. The two programs above tell you the temperature as measured internally, this internal temp is always way higher than the temp as shown by the external temp sensor. The recommended max temperatures you read about on forums like this are always quoting internal temps not external ones so you have to be very aware of this or you may fry your CPU.

Cheers, Andy.

Thanks andy, PL above says that my standard factory pc will control itself and not ever fry? james

It should not ... technically ... even if your fan dies and temp goes up near 100°C the cpu should clock down to prevent damage and usually does, but I wouldn't bet my whole money on itmurphy's law and so :) edit:I know its old but applies to newer intel ones too ...
