Once you have a skeleton - no way to recover?

Featured Replies

Isn't there a way to reset the scenery without ending the flight? Like a forced texture reload of sorts?
Yes. and it is quite easy to do. You can setup a saved keystoke sequence. I use CTRL-SHFT-S for an instant update to the scenery. With FSX loaded, use the dropdown menu for Options, Settings, Controls, Buttons/Keys, then scroll down to Refresh scenery, make your personal selection and press OK. You are in business for refreshing the scenery load at any time. This is also handy if you use the 'Y' key to Slew around quickly. Ray

I believe the skeleton issue to be related to the 4096.4096 texture sheets to a point. I resized all the 4096 sheets to 1024.1024. The loss in image quality is so minimal that I do not really notice the difference in general views. I haven't seen this skeleton issue since, even in OrbX airports. As Ryan stated, it would be a result of the memory being corrupted. Only a reload of the aircraft should deal with that issue, or restarting FSX. Andrew

Thanks to all contributors. Hopefully I won't have any skeleton effects anymore as this was the only occasion, with exception of a very few times for less than a second when changing to outside view the first time. However, there are some quite nice hints that may help just in case.

I don't think the skeleton is ever just a case of FSX not having enough space or anything - it's an actual corruption of that part of memory, which would explain why it's not recoverable after it happens. If you're getting this a lot the lower resolution texture options in SP1 should help...
Ryan, do you think this sort of memory corruption is hardware related or just a failure of Windows' internal garbage collection? I do still have full warranty on most of my rig's components and I could easily change them.

Axel
