June 21, 201312 yr Moderator For any new models it would be feasible to include a PulseLite system. For existing default AI and already completed user aircraft it would be impossible. Aside from the benefit of higher visibility to other aircraft, one major benefit is that it tends to lower the probability of bird strikes, as it "frightens" off the birds. Fr. June 22, 201312 yr Cool....might I suggest you add it to the feature lists. Now done, sorry for the oversite...
September 20, 201312 yr Commercial Member we were thinking about the possibility to add (an airline specific option of) pulse lignts to our Q400 model. While making pulsing light flashes is not a problem (even gradually raising and diminishing in power), some other things made us abandon developing this feature. - landing lights make custom splashes on the ground. Gradual pulsing light should make a gradual pulsing splash. While it's feasable, the complexity is overhelming. Bear in mind, these splashes are skinned mesh objects with bones, they are already complex without graduality... - landing lights make splashes on the engines - this is even more difficult, because they switch on a night texture with the light splash which is nearly impossible to make gradual. - landing lights make a splash on the rotating propellers. Here we use an effect, we can only switch it on or off, no graduality is possible. So, you see that some difficulties are critical, while the added value from pulsing lights (thanks Bill for your statistics) is next to minimal.
September 20, 201312 yr Moderator Modern PulseLite systems use LED clusters, so they are effectively on or off instantaneously, unlike incandescent lighting that does have a slightly noticeable fade in, fade out effect.
