Me (old and feeling stupid) again begging for help with MCP Combo

Featured Replies

At this point the MCP Combo is installed and fits perfectly just below the monitors, looks great too.Software installed correctly (no choice about SerialFP2, it had to be installed).LINDA installed correctly and all setup pages check OK with exactly the same entries as the LINDA Manual.I set it to auto detect, and Set LINDA to start with FSX.Started FSX, loaded the default flight, then switched to the PMDG JS41. No change shown in MC Combo.Left Full screen, checked LINDA, and PMDG JS41 had been auto detected.Left everything paused, read both MC Combo and LINDA manuals again.Closed out FSX and LINDA, and rechecked everything that I could find.REPEATED manual reading, starting FSX, for a couple of hours.....MCP Combo and LINDA never got together. Finally, in desperation, I loaded Serial FP2 and the MCP screens all came to life. It was a relief to see that it works. Now: Please tell me what I am doing wrong and explain how to get things working with LINDA . I know that I cannot work with Serial FP2. It seems that the older I get them faster my brain is leaking away. If it weren't for all the help provided on this and other forums I would probably still be flying a default Cessna 172.Grateful Thanks in advance.Neal HowardBtw...my first solo was in a J-3 Cub in 1955

If you have registered Version of FSUIPC and everything is set up right ... Are you sure that you have the correct entries in the FSUIPC4.ini about the COM ports? In doubt, start SerialFP and have a look which COM port is used for the Combo.Note this and set the same port in FSUIPC4.ini If this is set up right, then you maybe have run in the same issue I had with my Combo: it doesn't connect right to the selected COM port.I don't know what the reason is, but finally I solved it by unplugging my Combo's USB plug and plug it into another USB port of your computer. Try all of your USB ports; finally just one was working then for me.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, my FSUIPC is registered. I don't know anything about the entries in the fsuipc.ini file but will check it first thing tomorrow. I do know that LINDA reportsw it ok and on com port 8. I'm really looking forward to a flight that uswes the Combo and lets me leave the mouse alone.

Got it...the MCP was using COM 8 which is used by M-Panel. The correct port is COM 10. Once I corrected that, the MCP panel came to life and was auto synced to the JS-41.Unfortunately, a new problem: Three times my monitors have been corrupted. The left monitor has pink and red vertical stripes, the center monitor is gray, and the right monitor is black. The only way to get things working again is a forced reset using the reset button. Twice, while in flight, the PC has restarted. Both times I was NOT touching any of the buttons/switches/dials.These problem has never happened so they must must be somehow related to the MCP/LINDA Combo.I will reinstall my Radeon drivers and hope that will solve it but am not optimistic.

Just a little explanation: Linda should (as you said) show you the right COM port. But just to be sure that we could eliminate this a error source you should check this: got to your modules folderProgram Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules there'S the FSUIPC4.ini file open it with Editor(!) (do not use word or any program which adds formating s to it!) look for this line [VRInsight]1=com8 And tell us if its there ...Otherwhise (I don't think so) insert it or edit it and save the *.ini Make sure that this COM Port 8 is also used when you start SerialFP!!! If this is correct, then try to plug the Combo in different USB ports on you computer.Avoid USB hubs! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: Oh, you where faster. Glad you sorted it out... For your screen issues;I don't think or I could not explain how this could be related to LINDA or the Combo or whatever ...Reinstalling the GPU driver is a good choice, but have you tried to start FSX a second time and see if its happen again?

Thank you Guenseli. I am slowly learning how to operate the MCP/LINDA combo but I don't understand this: M-Panel uses COM 8 and the MCP combo uses COM 10. I always start LINDA before any planes are launched. FSUIPC starts SerialFP on both COM 8 and COM 10, correct? Why is SERIALFP needed for the Combo. Is it just used to start the Combo? As you can see, I am having some difficulty learning just how these softwares work together.

No, No... sorry if I was not clear ... You should only start SerialFP to check which port is used for the combo!.Also make sure you haven't connected the MPanel so you do not mix things up. After you have verified, that the Combo is on Port XY you do not need SerialFP for the Combo any more.If you use the MPanel, start LINDA and the Combo and then SerialFP ...

These problem has never happened so they must must be somehow related to the MCP/LINDA Combo.
Oh, the engine of our car failed yesterday and since yesterday we have a little dog. The engine problem has never happened before, so it must be somehow related to the dog???OK just kidding, this seems to be a hardware-problem may be to high temperature?

With kind regards

You are absolutely correct Newbie. I spoke with no facts, just an intuitive reaction. I suspected that the graphics corruption was coming from the speed that LINDA allows in changing lights, flaps, etc. Even though the MCP combo is powered externally (not from the PC), it may well be a power problem. Eight hundred watts is probably marginal with my rig.No overheating: all cores at 37 degrees or less all the time. The graphics thing is really odd. Today all three screens turned different shades of gray. After about 30 seconds it appeared that the PC was going to restart. Instead all screens cleared and my JS-41 was still ready to go.Thank you all for coming to my aid.Gotta love this forumRegards to allNeal HBtw....Newbie: NEVER, Never drive your car with a new dog. The engine will quit on you every time. Borrow your neighbor's for the day and all will be ok (just don't tell him why you need it):)

Neal, a little hint: "newbie" is the forum status of Roland it is not his nickname ... his Nickname is FSC190 if you mean this happy.png Can you verify that your graphic problems do NOT occur when LINDA or the MCP are NOT running? Is there a definitive correlation between LINDA/MCP Combo and the graphic issues???

My apologies to FSC190. Sometimes I am just not the sharpest knife in the rack.I will try a flight or two tomorrow without LINDA/MCP Combo and see what happens.However...I can see already that I am going to want to use both and will do whatever it takes to do so.Great hardware/software match.
