FSUIPC Virus???

Featured Replies

Hi,I have downloaded the latest FSUIPC (3.14) from both Pete Dowson's site and also AVSIM, and when unzipping I am advised that the dll has the "Win32:Gaobot-61 [Wrm]" virus. I am using the Avast 4.1 Home Edition Anti virus program which is fully updated.Has anyone experienced this or do I have a very nervous anti virus program?ThanksDavid

Give me a second David and I'll run Norton 2004 Anti virus on her...Regards,

Im useing norton antivirus and it shows it as virus free...

David,I just ran a full scan on all of the files included in the zip as well as the entire FS ACOF file and found it to be virus free with Norton.Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot guys. Looks like my virus scanner may have lost a marble or two. I thought it would be a bit unusual but thought it best to check. Thanks for you helpDavid

This does not mean there are no virus, it could mean that Norton don't find it. One thing you must do to ensure Norton scan is correct is to at least check in the virus definition database of your Norton Antivirus that it knows about "Win32:Gaobot-61" If it is not listed in Norton, I suggest you submit the file (FSUIPC) and the report from the other antivirus program, in order for Symantec to cross check and correct the database if indeed there is a virus.Hope this helps!

No viruses found with McAfee latest edition and latest DAT filesgreetingsrino

no virus found with Kaspersky (today database update)

It's clean with AVG- updated virus files immediately before the scan.Dave

Knowing Pete and the Avsim library I think it highly unlikely that FSUIPC has a virus, if downloaded from either of those two sites.I can confirm that AVG did not detect any virus and the def files are up to date. One way to put your mind at eaase is to search for Win32:Gaobot-61 on the web, or at one of the AV sites, and see what they have to say about it.Normally the description says what files are installed and how to get rid of the virus.HTH

FSUIPC is MOST definitely a virus... Once you have it, you can't get rid of it..... :DBut Norton here says it's clean...RJ

:-lol RJ!

>FSUIPC is MOST definitely a virus... Once you have it, you>can't get rid of it..... :D>>But Norton here says it's clean...>>RJWell that's very true :-lol

Suggest you visit this website http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/agobot.shtmlDon't be fooled by the name...there are variants and Gaobot-61 is only one of the names.Check also the prevention measures....especially if running Windows XP.Just because the detection alert occurred during action pertaining to FSUIPC does _not_ mean that the source of the worm (not a virus, by the way) is necessarily FSUIPC.

>Just because the detection alert occurred during action>pertaining to FSUIPC does _not_ mean that the source of the>worm (not a virus, by the way) is necessarily FSUIPC. Good Point Barney ... you may have it hideing out of your system somewhere...
