Enabling the Intel on-chip graphics on Z68 MB?

Featured Replies

While I RMA my GTX580, I'm thinking of using the integrated Intel graphics since I have a Z68 MB. Is there a good way to do this so that I don't have problems after switching back to the GTX580? I haven't tried the Intel Virtu or even installed the driver. I guess I can backup my C: drive and restore it afterwards, but I'm guessing it's going to take awhile for the RMA to come back so I don't really want to have to restore unless it's necessary (this computer does all my daily use as well as running FSX/FS9). scott s..

Just plug your monitor in to the graphics port on the rear panel for the MB. Nothing to it.

like diajohn says plug the monitor to that port it should come up. but let me remind you the integrated gfx will not give you any performance in FSX/ FS9.

Some Z68 motherboards don't have a DVI port and need a discrete GPU to make use of the IGP. What mobo is it exactly Scott?

It's the AsRock Ext4 Gen3. It's got RGB, DVI, and HDMI so that's not a problem. I think I have to set it as "primary" in the BIOS. Someday I would like to experiment with the "virtu", but I haven't found an explanation of exactly how it works that I could really understand. scott s..

Should not be a problem.

Turns out to have been a non-issue. Didn't have to do anything, just plug and play. I might save - off my fsx.cfg and see how big a difference it makes using just the on-chip gpu. scott s..

Scott, FSX will run like crap on the onboard GPU.

i beg to differ, it will be awesome. Why bother getting your 580 back :P He did say it was only for office use though.
