October 14, 201114 yr Hi! i have noticed that the brake temperature goes down extremly slow if at all... is this correct?I just took a flight and had to brake pretty hard to make the taxiway so my brake temp went up to about 4... i had a rather long turn around, so i was on the ground for 40 minutes, and at takeoff the brake temp was still 4... shouldnt it have lowered at least a bit?If it doesnt lower during this flight i think ill have problems during landing in an hour... ;) /Niklas Eriksson Niklas Eriksson
October 14, 201114 yr I don't know the exact cooling rates on the ground, but it is slow due to lack of airflow. A good way to cool te brakes faster is to leave the gear down a little longer after takeoff or lower it a little sooner on approach. October 14, 201114 yr Have a look at page 365 of the Quick Reference Handbook. You'll find the Cooling Time table there, listing how much cooling time you have to expect under which conditions. You'll see that very hot brakes can take up to an hour or more to cool down. Also, there was a problem with the cooldown in previous versions of the NGX. The brakes would only cool down when the aircraft was in flight but not when parked on the ground. I haven't checked yet if that was fixed with one of the hotfixes.
