October 16, 201114 yr I found another post in this forum where this issue was discussed, but I could never find an answer to the question. I just wonder whether it is possible to assign the different NGX's VC views to keystrokes or keys on my joystick instead of circling through by using 'A' or 'S'. I have a hat on my throttle (logitech G940) that I havent assigned to any functions and I would like to use it for the 4 VC views that I use the most: captain, FO, overhead and pedestral. Thanks! Antonio H.
October 16, 201114 yr I too would like to know how, if possible to do this......BTW, also still looking for ways to change the default view zoom as I can't see anything but out the window when I first boot up, and it would be great to start the sim with a zoom of maybe .40 instead of eyeball to the glass look that is seems to default for me. Changing views, and not having a set point for each one after changing is kinda annoying, and I have been scratching my head over it for a while.....especially when I am tinkering with something, and VatSim ATC gives me new info, I then have to go through the motion of SpaceBar+mouse look to focus on what I need to do next. I know it is not an NGX issue, as all default planes have this view point and problem..... Would buy a TrackIr, but wife would kill me.......all real money now is going to the new addition to our family.....lol William Sequeira
October 16, 201114 yr In FSX, make sure you have keys assigned to 'Panel Window' 1 - 8, in the View section of 'Settings - Controls'. Then test these in you NGX to see what views pop up, and assign the ones you want to your device. Jeff Johnson (RWS)
October 16, 201114 yr EZdok camera does everything you've mentioned. I have 21 views with keyboard shortcuts, including VC views, wing views, exterior shots, etc...You can assign numerous views to the joystick also. Curt Branch
October 16, 201114 yr Author Thanks for your answers! In FSX, make sure you have keys assigned to 'Panel Window' 1 - 8, in the View section of 'Settings - Controls'. Then test these in you NGX to see what views pop up, and assign the ones you want to your device. As far as I know the NGX VC views like lower overhead, upper overhead, pedestral... are part of NGX itself and not to be found in FSX. So shift-4, shift-6. shift-7... refer only to 2D views, the ones hardcoded in FSX. EZdok camera does everything you've mentioned. I have 21 views with keyboard shortcuts, including VC views, wing views, exterior shots, etc...You can assign numerous views to the joystick also. Yes, I know those views that I am interested in can be assigned to keys by EZdok, but I don't have EZdok. I wonder if there is a simpler solution without the need of even more addons. Antonio H.
October 16, 201114 yr In Exdoc, can the zoom be saved also? That is only the real issue I have, is having to adjust all the zoom settings myself before every flight. I can live with having to hard pan around to get the view centered or whatnot, but the zoom, looking into the cockpit dives me nuts, and wastes time I need on finals and such..... I will try to find some more info on ezdoc and see if it is worth it......How many people here use it without TrackIR and does it work well enough without it? Or are those two supposed to be ran together.... William Sequeira
October 16, 201114 yr In Exdoc, can the zoom be saved also? I'll jump in here - yes, EZDok saves the zoom as well. Christoph Kühne
October 16, 201114 yr Author I know many people use TrackIR in combination with EZdok. They should work fine. I use TrackIR alone and I could not fly without it. You get used to it after 5 minutes and then there is no way back. TrackIR uses all 3 axes (X,Y,Z) so zooming in/out is done by moving your head forward/back. Small movements of your head are translated into larger movements in the simulation so you can easily move around and zoom in/out. It feels very natural and it definitely adds realism. I can easily reach all parts of the cockpit, but some times, specially at night, the buttons and switches of the overhead panel can be difficult to see. Then opening the VC overhead provided in the NGX helps a lot. My only concern is that I have to right click on some empty space to open the popup menu, choose virtual cockpit and lower overhead to open that view. I have to do that like 15 times during the startup procedure! It gets tedious after a few flights. That is why I would like to assign it to some keystroke or to my throttle hat switch. I don't want to buy one more addon just for accessing the overhead panel... Antonio H.

I don't want to buy one more addon just for accessing the overhead panel... As an alternative, Shift+6 opens the 2D overhead panel (at least in my config). The 6 on the number keys that is, not the numpad. Shift+1 through 9 open whichever panels appear in the list in the menu in that order, so for example Shift+3 opens the FMC in the NGX. Should be no problem to assign that keystroke to a joystick-button.The only solution that I am aware of to assign a VC-view to a keystroke would be EZDok. Christoph Kühne
October 16, 201114 yr The only solution that I am aware of to assign a VC-view to a keystroke would be EZDok. This would be my understanding as well. I went to EZCA (EZDok) about a month ago because I was tired of using the 2D panels to configure/maintain the aircraft. EZDok is an excellent addition. You can set up multiple cameras, assign shortcuts to each, and then access the views via your chosen flight control buttons, including the hatswitch.I haven't tried TrakIR but there sure is a lot of positive feedback on this site about it, but I find it a bit pricey and I fear I won't like it all that much. My current monitor setup gives me an excellent panarama viewpoint and I've configured EZDok 'Mouse Move' toggle onto a control column button so I can quickly pan my eye around while in flight. October 16, 201114 yr You can set this with an aircraft.cfg edit! Add "HotKeySelect=n" to the CameraDefinition section of the aircraft.cfg corresponding to the desired view. N should be numbers 4-9. Then set the appropriate hotkey to the view in FSX view settings.
October 17, 201114 yr Author Woohoo!! That is exactly what I was looking for. You've saved my day Thanks! Antonio H.
