Trees library issue.

Featured Replies

Hi, I am setting up my new system and I am in the middle of that task.I noticed that in a scenery using common library trees, the trees textures are not shown (white bars)even though I have installed Gerrish's trees library. With the same configuration it was working on my previous system.Any ideas what to do ?

That generally means you've got duplicate tree libraries installed and one of them is missing the required textures from it's accompanying texture folder. Do a top-down file search for "tree" and maybe you can find the duplicate (.bgl) that's causing the problem. It's probably a tree library that someone included with their scenery pkg, but since they didn't use the particular trees out of the library, they didn't include the textures. Now the airport that you're seeing the white trees at is getting it's tree models from the duplicate .bgl with the missing tree textures instead of the intended one (the one that did that did have tree textures). ...or at least that's what typically happens when trees loose textures. If you find any duplicate tree libraries, try to find the original downloads in the file libraries (i.e. "Matt's Trees_Vol1" or whatever) and install them into a Static Objects Library folder like they were intended to be. This ensures that you have all the associated textures as supplied and intended by the tree's original author. With that done delete the duplicate .bgls from the local arpt scenery folders, and if you care you can clean up a little drive space by hunting down the textures too, but they won't hurt anything if you leave them there. Jim, Thanks for your reply.Do you know where it is best to place the tree bgl file (scenery, addon scenery, Base, generic) ?As the authors of the libraries often do not determine the exact folder. And that Static Objects Library where is to be placed ?I 'll do that search when I get back home. The trees bgl. (as for example Gerrish trees).should normally go in the scenery "base" folder.Jim is spot on.I had a similar problem and I had a duplicate tree bgl files installed.I removed those.Problem solved! Dimi.

I did that search. I found some tree (bgl), but none of them has the same filename with any other. On the other hand, all of them, apart from Gerrish trees, may be necessary for the respective sceneries. What then ?

Normally you'd just make a "Static Object Libraries" folder within Addon Scenery, then add scenery and texture subfolders for the .bgls and textures. Add this scenery area in the scenery library like you would any other scenery.

There's always a chance someone renamed a .bgl which doesn't change a thing except the filename, the GUIDs are still intact, and it's still a duplicate tree library as far as the sim is concerned. Another solution might be to move anything that obviously looks like a tree texture into the main Flight Simulator 9\Texture folder which can be globally accessed by any active scenery. What specific scenery are you having the missing texture problems with? It'd be a lot easier to give you some advice if we had the files and folders that you're seeing in front of us. Jim

So far I haven't found any other than Hellenic Scenery Project LGAL with this issue. Sotiris.

I installed it and if it makes you feel any better I have untextured trees too. I tried copying some of the obvious tree textures found in "HSP Greece\texture" into the main FS9\Texture folder, no joy. This is all ancient scasm stuff so the duplicate tree library theory doesn't apply. I decompiled some of the files that I could to .sca and the only .bmp I could see being called in the .bgls I decompiled was "Asphalt.bmp" or something like that, no trees. I'm sure it's here somewhere but I think someone may have just forgotten to include some tree textures in the download. Anyway I'm a Gmax/XML fan and I know very little about scasm based sceneries so I'm afraid I can't be much help. Best wishes, Jim

Jim, Your willingness to help is highly appreciated. I am grateful. And just for the record, I removed all bgls relevant to "trees"apart from trees_0.bgl, but no luck and restored them all. All the best, Sotiris
