Gamespy and simconnect, expert needed!

Featured Replies

My FSx has worked perfectly up until recently with Gamespy/multiplayer, and now when I Host a session, no one can see it to connect to it. I can see and connect to others fine, and if I start a session with my second machine, others can see that, so it is something unique to this machine.Anyone have any ideas? I am totally baffled at this point.

First thing I'd do is compare the Windows Firewall settings on PCs.Cheers,- jahman.

Yes I am, and checked that also. I have FS on 2 machines, and both run through the same router, one works fine, the other doesnt, so its something specific to the one machine, router eliminated.

Jay, This has nothing to do with Simconnect. To make multiplayer work you need to.1. Make sure you are using the default ports 6112 to 6122.2. Ensure your router forwards these ports (UDP) to the internal ip address of the maching you are running as a host. (Normally 192.168.xxx.xxx)3. Ensure your firewall will allow inbound connections on the same.(UDP 6112 to 6122) (Or fsx is a fully trusted app)If you follow these 3 things then you should be ok.

Instead of port forwarding, just DMZ your router. Much easier, and it is less of a headache whenever you need to port forward other programs. You should also try VATSIM, IVAO, or Pilot Edge instead of the GameSpy multiplayer.

For anyone reading this please don't set your host up as a DMZ. What you are doing is allowing any internet traffic to have a chance at attacking your pc.The benefit of using a router is all inbound traffic is denied. Don't change this!

DMZing is completely safe with a good Firewall (ex. Comodo) and a good AV (ex. Comodo or Avast).Trust me. DMZing frees all other hassles with ports.

Just starting to look at your program. Can your controls be used with Linda programing ie .lua?

For now I'm concentrating on all the standard simconnect variables. No reason why it couldn't work with .lua although I'm not convinced that that would be a big market. On their own both markets are probably a reasonable size put to put one on top of the other might become too narrow.Unless of course its possible to bundle .lua into Open Control?Something I'll come back and look at once I've got it out of Beta.

I agree. And not using a condom is less hassle too.
You don't have to go there. mellow.pngIt's your choice. If you're good with computers, DMZ. If you ***think*** you're going to get a virus, port forward. Simple as that.
