Stutters 'B' Gone !!!

Featured Replies

Well, finally I have a smooth flight sim after 6 months of tweaking! I've always had 2 monitors off my ATI 9800pro and constant stutters either on the ground or in the air while turning. I was browsing the forums when I came across a note about disabling hardware acceleration on the "second" monitor. Low and behold, FS9 is now better than ever before. And oh yeah, now I can turn sliders way up without causing stutters. I notice my frames dropped as I changed display settings - but who cares about frames when I dont stutter. The only thing I definetly noticed about my frames, it appears that it doesnt make an major dips. In other words, If my FPS is around 25 -It stays at 25. No, my fps counter is not locked, set to unlimited. One note about this change, I did begin having ATI contol Panel issues after I made this change. It appears that the hardware acceleration slider has about 5-6 different settings it will accept. In position 1 (off) and position 2 > my ATI control panel would not display in settings. When I set it to the 3rd notch - the CP loaded fine. Im still researching this and hopefully will have more to post later on. Good LuckTonyPS - This is not the DirectX setting for acceleration that Im referring to. You must goto your display properties > troubleshoot to find this setting.

Another idea for nVidia owners: if you're not using two monitors for flying, or have a TV or something connected for watching DVDs, while flying SF9, set nView mode to single not clone or dual. Also a boost in frames. I also can't say enough about ken salter's new FSAutoStart utility - without benchmarks, I can't offer proof, but unloading even just theme support before flying makes FS run much smoother than before, and I'm pretty sure I've picked up a couple of FPS along the way. Go download it now - or wait until build 3 comes out shortly!Best,sg

Would you mind clarifying the service name for theme support? Also, in FS9.cfg, anyone know what LoadWeather=1 is for? I use an external weather program.

Hello,My config is P4 2.4 , 1 gig ram, GF4 TI4600 StarStorm driver 53.03 , 2 monitors are attached to this card, primary at 1600x1200x32, secondary at 1152x864x32 resolution .When I try the suggested tweak (no HWR acceleration for the secondary monitor) I have a negative effect: I have 2 to 6 FPS with 2D cockpit + FSNav on the secondary monitor and spot view on the primary monitor. When I re-enable the HWR acceleration for the secondary monitor, I have again my 15 to 20 FPS on heavy scenery and 30 FPS (the max I allow) when I "fly". This with AS2004 running.

In FSAutostart, the themes service is just called "Themes".
