The WD 1T Black are excellent drives.

Spinpoint F3 are good too. Slightly slower than Caviar Blacks, but great value. HDD prices have skyrocketed lately due to the Thailand floods that affected Western Digital's facilities. If you can do a clean up and get some space back so you can wait a little until prices settle down a bit, do it.If you can't wait you can move everything to the new drive using a disk imaging tool like Acronis, Clonezilla...

Three months ago I bought a couple of 2TB WD disks that I have in my HTPC for storage. I paid approx 58,90 euros for each and noticed that the list price today from the same vendor is 180,90 €. Talk about skyrocketing!

Yeah there was some plant in Thailand that flooded this year which ruined a lot of product... then the prices went up.

yeah, I went on this morning to newegg, man, the hd I want is now $229 for a 1.5TB Cav Black 64 cacheI'm thinking at this time, I will just reinstall, simply because it probably wouldn't hurt to clean everything out anyway

I'm sure you've heard this before and is aware of it but that's why creating images of the partition is a huuge time saver. My flightsim computer recently decided not to boot to windows anymore and I got a very quick boot message saying that the hive file couldn't be loaded. I had to film the start up sequence and find the exact picture frame to even see what the message said. But some 20 minutes later I had loaded my saved image to the disk and it was up and running again!

Why don't you just a new HDD, copy everything to it and then in computer management change the driveletter??? Everything's gonna work as it used to.

yup - do it all the time. Keep the old drive as a backup. Fast, easy and relatively painless. As long as you keep the drive letter the same, all your registry entries will point to the right place

I think it's the OS drive guys. If it is, you need to clone it using an imaging software or it won't boot. Copying the files won't transfer the MBR, BCD and boot sector

If it's the windows drive, it's the whole another ballgame. If only flightsim on the drive, copy is enough.
